AutoCAD 2D and 3D practice drawings (Udemy.com)

A collection of AutoCAD practice drawings and projects

Created by: Jaiprakash Pandey

Last updated March 2020

Our take

Based on the ratings of 8,300 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in March 2020. No course pays to be reviewed.

Think of this as a free practice pack rather than a tutorial. Jaiprakash Pandey made it as a companion to his full AutoCAD course, and the syllabus is 42 lectures over about six hours: a set of 2D drawings, two sets of 3D drawings including a gear and a slotted nut, a floor plan project, and a coke bottle modelled and rendered from scratch. Every lesson ships a PDF and DWG with dimensions. It suits people who already know the basic 2D and 3D commands and want drawings to copy so the tools stick. Around 170,000 people have enrolled, and it holds 4.5 stars from 8,300 reviews.

Reviewers call the drawings practical and well structured, and one says the dimensioned files let him attempt each piece his own way before watching how the instructor does it. His teaching gets called clear and logical. The complaints cluster around pace. Lower-star reviews say he moves fast, does not always explain where a measurement comes from, and reads dimensions aloud instead of showing them on screen, so some students had to replay lessons or just work from the DWG files. One reviewer found the visuals unclear, and there is no completion certificate, which catches people out.

The last update was March 2020, but nothing in the reviews suggests the drawings have aged badly; the newest ones, from 2026, still call the content practical. Next to the Blender, Maya and Fusion 360 courses it sits with, this is the odd one out: it is the only AutoCAD option, and it is a drill book rather than a beginner path. If you have done a basics course and want something to practice on, it costs nothing and does the job. If you need commands explained from zero, start elsewhere.

Best forPeople who finished an AutoCAD basics course and want dimensioned drawings to copy until the commands stick.
Skip it ifYou have never opened AutoCAD, or you want each command explained slowly rather than demonstrated at speed.

Pros

  • Every lesson includes a dimensioned PDF and DWG, so you can attempt the drawing before watching the solution
  • Builds from simple 2D drawings to advanced 3D parts like a gear and a slotted nut
  • Two end-to-end projects: a floor plan and a coke bottle sketched, modelled and rendered
  • Free, and reviewers say the instructions are clear and easy to follow

Cons

  • Moves fast and often skips how a measurement was worked out; one student had to replay every lesson to keep up
  • Dimensions are sometimes read aloud instead of shown on screen, and one reviewer found the visuals unclear
  • No completion certificate, and the last update was in 2020
Its a good course that progresses easily through the tools. It also provides the dimensioned drawings so once you understand the tools you can build the projects your way then compare that to how he builds them.

Listed as all levels, but it assumes you already know basic 2D and 3D commands and have AutoCAD installed; true beginners will struggle.

Any one with little knowledge of AutoCAD can take this course, this is made as a supplemental material for practicing skills learnt in my AutoCAD 2016 complete course of Udemy.

About this course:

In this course you will learn methods of making actual 2D and 3D engineering drawings along with some representation drawings.

The course is divided into four sections with each section dedicated to a specific type of drawings. The first section has 2D drawings, sections has 3D drawings, third section has advance 3D drawings like making a gear or a Slotted nut etc.

The last section has a project in which I have taught method of making a coke bottle from scratch. The lessons include 2D sketching, 3D conversion adn rendering of the bottle.

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Apply skills learnt in AutoCAD to real world scenario.
  • Draw 2D and 3D complex drawings

All the lesson files containing PDF and DWG of drawings with dimensions are included with the respective lesson.

Its a good course that progresses easily through the tools. It also provides the dimensioned drawings so once you understand the tools you can build the projects your way then compare that to how he builds them. Giving you multiple ways to see how to build something.

I really enjoy this course, it's simple, easy, clear, and strong. I really filing like an AutoCAD professional from 2nd video. Additionally, after finishing a half of the course, I really excited to finish all of this course, this course makes me a full AutoCAD power, I made some projects in very short time, I thank everyone involved in this course, I really appreciate what I have from this course.

By Larisa Mutescu on 1/1/2025

The course is great, I liked it a lot. A lot of information, with different levels of difficulty. I worked with a free version of Autochad for 15 days and because of this (i believe) I had certain differences in the program compared to your presentations. Thank you very much.

It was a good course this guy literally taught me from scratch but things could be more better if he would have told about general errors but thats alright. but the worst part is that No course completion certificate was provided

I came into this course with experience in SolidWorks and a basic understanding of the AutoCAD 2D tools. I wanted something to walk me through making some pieces in AutoCAD so I could get used to the process. By the end of it, I was able to figure out how to make a part in AutoCAD that I had struggled to make near the end of my SolidWorks course at my university. Ready to add a great new software to my resume!

I had learned AutoCAD during my Diploma in 2015 on a 2013 version. Later I got with my Bachelor's in Mechanical and now during the final year I wanted to brush up with the softwares and its commands. This course proved to be very perfect for it. Thank you so much for practice sessions!

As I am the mechanical student this course helps me a lot to explore my idea in better way. From this course i really came to know more command and usage of it. and this video is more detailly explained and understanding manner. As this course is free of cost, the beginner can take take up this course and improve their skill set. thank to the team of udemy for this wonderful course.

By simon Piers on 12/30/2019

Hi I am Simon and I am an apple user so some of the commands were not easy and could not found them, but because I wanted to achieve results I have managed to do so. Of course it is not the tutor fault and I am happy to take more classes. Thank you Jay Kindly Simon

By Cristian Florescu on 3/12/2019

PROS - very simple - everything to know for absolute beginners - explain 2d sketches - very good, because of practice CONS - "It's not required". It's the phrase I hear a lot in this course. At some point you will guess it's coming out. :)) - I wanted even more 2d examples. :)

By Jeremy Bumgarner on 7/5/2016

Great material, great knowledge base from the instructor, and lots to learn! Worth taking if you need practice in CAD! Have difficulty understanding the accent sometimes, and perhaps some more explanation of why/how you're doing things would be helpful.
