Course Description
Do you know any real and practical Bash Shell script?
There is a lot of abstract Bash Scripting that shows you isolated elements of bash programming.
However this can go only so far. You will not be ready for real world programming in your job if you have a theory based knowledge.
In this Course We will cover ALL the basics of terminal and bash scripting thoroughly, but without wasting any time,
we will then Automate 6 Simple and Real Task with Bash Scripts that you can use in your everyday life as a programmer.
They are carefully selected to build all the skills you need in Bash Scripting.
For this Reason they are of incremental complexity.
We will present and explain in details a command or a practice in Bash Scripting ONLY when it will be used in one of our main real world scripts, and we will build it together step by step, showing you the best practices when programming a real script.
In this way, not only will you learn ALL the fundamental ( and even some advanced ) elements in Bash Scripting, but you will know how to apply those in a Real scenario to solve a Real Problem.
Everything is explained at a slow pace and thoroughly to make sure you can follow along.
Even if you never used the command line, the First 2 Sections will teach you all the tools necessary to use the command line and start writing your shell scripts, nothing important is left out, nothing useless is left in.
By the end of the course you'll be writing your own Shell Scripts, in particular you will learn how to:
Use the command line
Automate tasks using Shell Scripts
Create and use variables in your scripts
Manipulate variables to a wide extent
Use Wildcards
Use Input and output Redirection
Source subshells
Make decisions by using if-else statements
Loop through files and folders
Make decision based on strings, variables or files
Use arithmetic expression
Use advanced computations with the BC command line environment
Scripts with parameters and how to "shift"
Change the Internal field separator plus why and when to do so.
Use Arrays
How to properly use your PATH, and a script to work with it
Create Shell Scripts that solves real world problems
and much more...
You will write Scripts that:
Move back any numbers of directories you want in the terminal
Find the longest string inside any text file
Performs computations that terminal normally does NOT allow
Read files in your Linux system that have particular separators ( not the usual space )
Get clear Information of files in your PATH, the most important environment variable of your system
Use arrays to know how many times your files were modified during the day
Writing these scripts will allow you to develop an actual skill in creating scripts to solve real problems.
You can Become a Programmer in Bash Scripting who knows how to solve actual problems.
and You can start now.
Looking forward to see you there.

nice explanation

The course was great, explained very well, some particular moments was not very understandable since there is commands that needs to be installed into the bash terminal before you can actually use them but overall the course is very good and very recommended

This is a worthwhile introduction to bash scripting, and includes just the right amount of information to learn alongside some useful scripts. However, I would have enjoyed it more if there was some challenges throughout the course instead of (or in addition to) walking through the scripts. Overall, the process shown to build the scripts was good - showing how to build a script up in a strategic way and testing the script in stages as it is being built - but I feel it would have forced a deeper understanding of what was being taught if I had to have a go at writing the script myself first.

This course together with another bash scripting course offered by the same instructor will certainly prepare any beginner to tackle the requirements of possibly all forms of shell scripting. In my opinion, one can learn the advanced stuff of shell scripting on their own if they are well equipped with the basics taught here. Kudos to the instructor for teaching so well! Much obliged!

Love the hands on approach, project based learning is something I really appreciate when it is available so thank you for that! Have taken a few courses on BASH and have a few books, this course really helped to drive through some gaps in my understanding of applications from other more theory based studies. Again really awesome content and well presented.

The presentation is very clear and the teacher prevents to make several presentation errors others do often, e.g. using to small text in the terminal. The strength of the course are it's small concrete projects. Also the teacher knows his onions, which can said about some, but not about every guy who offers a linux course at Udemy. He knows traps or special problems with the described commands, which some other teachers seem not be aware of. I think it's very good as first bash scripting course and one of the best introductions to bash scripting at Udemy. With this fundament everybody can look at further detailed and longer bash courses.

I was fleshing out my Linux/bash skills. I'm already a programmer and fairly familiar with the CIL and Linux. This was a great course for me - practical and useful. The scripts helped point out all the idiosyncrasies and potential pitfalls when programming for bash. Thanks!

Excellent lecture. That course plus some exercise from, lets say hackerrank, will skill up everybody. I just missed few things like sed and awk. I think if you include them here or make a different course about them(if you already didn't) will be perfect.

Content is very good, top raiting there. However the presentation is not up to my standards, maybee my experience as a sound enginer sets my standards to high. But in online education the voice is everyting, Youtube can accept lower quality audio. Udemy is payed content, basic demands should be: Good quality mic on head set, so turning your head is not affecting level and quality. Use of gate, to remove background noise Use of compressor, to get a even and normalized level. And maybee just a little EQ to make the voice realy carry trough.

These videos are great. They are perfect length to take a break and watch 1 or 2. I'm a Senior DevOps Engineer and I wanted to brush up on my Bash skills. There are so many little beginners commands or options, from section 1, that I either forgot about or didn't know at all. I would absolutely recommend this to my peers and people that are looking for a great Bash course.
