Become a SpeedDemon 1: Productivity Tricks to Have More Time (Udemy.com)

The original and most popular course on productivity and automation. We suggest choosing our updated version 2 instead!

Created by: Jonathan Levi

Last updated December 2023

Our take

Based on the ratings of 6,223 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in December 2023. No course pays to be reviewed.

Jonathan Levi's Speed Demon course is a short one: 37 lectures and about 2.6 hours across seven sections. It opens with the theory behind productivity, then moves to computer shortcuts and automation, health and fitness, finances, and delegation. It is aimed at anyone who feels short on time and doesn't want to read ten books on the subject. One thing to know up front: the course's own headline points people to a rewritten second version, and the last update here was in December 2023.

Reviewers like how compact and direct it is. Of 6,223 ratings, 2,925 are five stars and 2,166 are four, and the comments describe bite-sized, practical tips backed by theory. Students call the teaching engaging and clear. The complaints are consistent. Some say the examples lean toward a US office worker on a Mac, with apps that don't help Windows users, stay-at-home parents or people abroad. Some linked sites are dead, two reviewers call the content dated, and another found the lectures could be much shorter.

With 42,707 students it is clearly popular, and a few hours is a small ask. It works best as a menu: reviewers say not every tip will fit, so pick the ones that suit your work and stick with them. If the choice is open, the newer edition is what the course itself recommends, so check that first. For a friendly nudge to stop wasting time, this one still does the job.

Best forBusy office workers who want a quick, bite-sized list of time-saving habits and apps, not a deep system.
Skip it ifYou use Windows, live outside the US, or would rather take the newer rewrite of this course.

Pros

  • Short at about 2.6 hours, so it is easy to finish in a few sittings
  • Theory is paired with real-life examples, and reviewers call the tips bite-sized and applicable
  • The delegation section convinced one student that paying someone else to do a task makes sense
  • Reviewers say the instructor is engaging and keeps the material clear

Cons

  • Examples lean US and Mac, so Windows users and people abroad get less from them
  • Some linked sites are dead and reviewers call parts dated, such as the elance.com example
  • Lectures could be shorter, and not every tip suits every kind of work
Compact. Simple. Direct. Loved the course and I'll start the speedreading course next.

Listed for all levels, and the only stated requirement is an open mind. Nothing in the syllabus calls for technical background.

Course Description

***Please Note: We have recently introduced a completely rewritten and all-new version of this course for 2020 - we suggest you search for "Become a Speed Demon 2" to get the latest edition!***

This course will teach you the most cutting-edge tips and tricks for productivity, automation, and efficiency, so that you can do more work in less time and have more time for the things that matter in life.

What would you do to have just one more hour in the day? Two hours? How about 3?

The sad truth is that most of us simply don't have enough time in our daily lives to get through everything we need to do. Much less the things we want to do.

In this course from best-selling instructor Jonathan Levi, author of the blockbuster course "Become a SuperLearner," you will learn how to reclaim enough time to do just that - and so much more.

For the last 10 years, your instructor Jonathan Levi has developed a series of techniques, tips, tricks, and strategies to overcome a near superhuman workload. From juggling a multimillion dollar business while engaged as a full time student, to running multiple companies at the same time, to leading a jam-packed travel, social, and educational calendar that would make some people's heads spin.

How is this possible, and how can you, too, learn to Become a Speed Demon?

The course starts out with a great foundation in theory, training you on the philosophies behind efficiency, productivity, and "speeding up."

Armed with these theories and strategies, the course then dives into more nuts-and-bolts recommendations on how to speed up some of the most time-intensive activities we each do every day; working at the computer, cooking and fitness, interactions with others, and other general inefficiencies.

The course takes a holistic approach to productivity and efficiency, arming you with the mindset to kick butt and speed up every aspect of your productive and creative life, in order to make time for the things that really matter. With that said, this course, as with the instructor's other courses, will evolve, grow, and improve based on your feedback, so get your front-row seat today!

Too many sourcing out information, click here click there. Complete waste of my time. The volume difference between each video is outrageous, goes from very quiet to very loud.

By Radhika Kumar on 11/8/2020

I really liked this training. It has some important elements in being more efficient in use of your time. There are lots of ideas that is shared that can come in handy. Plus the pre -quiz helps set up the next lectures and drive important points home.
