Course Description

You'll learn how all those buttons and dials work on your Canon DSLR. Including the exercises, this course will take you about 2.5 hours. Through the exercises you'll do and through the explanations of the concepts, JP is committed that you retain the information there is to retain without memorizing. There is about an hour of video lecture which covers exposure, aperture, shutter speed and the mode dial (Auto, P, S, A and M). Images will be shown as examples. The exercises will be explained fully. This course is perfect for anyone who considers themselves a beginner with their Canon DSLR or for anyone who has some existing knowledge about how their camera works but hasn't quite put all the puzzle pieces together when it comes to how aperture and shutter speed work together. This class is for you if you don't know how all the modes (Auto, P, S, A and M) work on your camera and when you should be using each mode.

I have a very difficult time trying to remember the settings, what to use when and what lens to use. I believe that I will have to watch this several more times for it to sync in and become more understandable. That is one of my learning challenges. Overall I feel that the instructor did a good job explaining the course. I also think that maybe he needs to do something different with his hands. Standing in the same spot and positioning his hands in just about the same position becomes monotonous and for some reason it causes my mind to wander.

I found this course helpful. The explanations were clear and practical, and I especially appreciated that the presenter used simple metaphors to make key concepts easy to remember. As advertised, it's a true beginner-level course. Although the course is aimed at Canon users, I have a Nikon and was still able to follow along perfectly and complete all the excercises without any issues. Overall a great foundational course that delivers exactly what is promised.

Since it was labelled Canon photography, I was expecting more navigating on the camera with the photography basics. Some examples like the snow shots were not good and looked out of focus with poor colour. Would have been nice to show what settings are used to correct poor photos?

I understand a lot more about how I can make my camera work for me, I'm much less afraid of all the numbers and dials. It's all a balance of light. I'm really looking forward to having more fun with my camera. I am a dyslexic visual thinker and the way the tutor used analogy to explain concepts was perfect for someone like me.

i first took this course about a year ago and gave it four stars. I spent the next 6 months using what I'd learned in this class taking pictures. Recently I decided to view the class again and realized how much i'd missed the first time through. JP's presentation skills, knowledge and ability to communicate the art of photography are second to none. Thank you JP. FIVE BIG STARS.

It was a very effective class, getting to learn about exposure, aperture and shutter speed, almost throughout the class. Getting to know what modes to use when was the best part. The only con I found here was, there were a few terms that weren't covered. Like White Balance and ISO, and what kind of lenses, the lens sizes, to use when and where.

Love this course! I have been putting off learning my camera for a couple years now. JP breaks it down so precisely that I actually feel more confident and want to pick up my camera! Thank you JP!! Just finished this course and I have to admit I started the first few sessions by taking tedious notes. Once I put down the notepad and picked up the camera (like JP suggests) everything started to click (no pun intended ????) and make sense. Thanks again for an awesome beginners course!!!

This photography course is most instructive and enjoyable. I am a basic beginner and have done some reading, which has helped little. The practical information and application of principles taught has made me excited to learn by taking pictures. The instructor is trying to help the student, not just impress them What an excellent teacher. Many Thanks

I know nothing about a DSLR camera except that I have spent a lot of money. But I want to learn and I like your approach. I have gone thru the entire course. At my age I have a lot to learn and I like his approach. Needless to say, I have and will continue to listen to this course over and over until my "old" brain absorbs everything. This is best course I have come across. Update: It has been a couple of months at least since I did the course the first time. The second time around I learned a lot more....an excellent way to learn about aperture and shutter speed and how they work together.

JP is a very methodical teacher who thinks of every detail, he also gives the visual images which are important to someone like me, A visual learner. I learned a lot about my camera. And four really cool techniques that I think will be essential to shooting photography in a professional manner in the future. The class was worth every penny. I'm happy that I chose the scores as my first Udemy lecture.
