Course Description
In this series of lessons, taught by top UK session guitarist, Bobby Harrison, we’re going to be focusing on soloing over a slow blues.
You’ve probably heard this kind of playing if you’re familiar with songs such as "Red House","Texas Flood", "How Blue Can You Get", "Be Careful With A Fool", "The Sky Is Crying”, “Five Long Years”…the list goes on.
Slow blues is an extremely expressive form of blues, since it allows for a lot of freedom in terms of phrasing and dynamics.
Since the blues is an improvisational form of music, it’s harder to teach than some other styles. For generations, blues musicians have picked up licks and soloing ideas from other players, so feel free to use the ideas presented here in your own solos. Eventually, like the generations of blues guitarists before you, you’ll make them your own.
As Bobby mentioned in Blues Guitar Lessons - Volume 1, in order to play blues, you need to be able to hear blues and in order to hear it, you need to listen to a lot of it. The ingredients are pretty straight forward in terms of the scales and chords used, but there’s so much more to this form of music in terms of feel, taste, phrasing and expression.
Again, put together a play list of your favourite blues songs and listen to it as often as you can to really internalise the style.

The guitar tone is great and the instructor is definitely a seasoned veteran who speaks from experience. He references the classic legendary licks in a tasteful and non-cliche manner. He also uses a great feel that is not your basic 4-4 but has a triplet feel underneath it. I count the solo in a slow 12/8 or four groups of triplet notes. Most instruction is in straight 4 without this feel. This is definitely unique. At least to my ear.

This was great. Really enjoyed learning more of those iconic blues riffs that the greats use(d). The instructor does a great job of explaining the licks clearly. He's an actual guitar teacher, so it's well arranged and professionally done. I think the only thing I'd add would be a full backing track at the end, so we could practice everything all together, as a whole solo. But, I really enjoyed it and learned quite a few things that I'm already adding to my vocabulary. I didn't realize this was #2 in a series, so now I'm going to sign up for the first one. Good stuff

Incredible ideas for developing a blues lick vocabulary! I still need to feel comfortable to incorporate them into my own solos, but great overall! Licks comprehending various influences/artists, which is great! This is not a rush to complete! Take your time, practice the lessons and follow on!

I took away some golden nugget moments like gradually starting the solo then building it up and then finalizing it. This solo piece requires putting some emotions and feeling if you want it to sound good. Makes nice usage of the major and minor pentatonics! Rock on!

Bobby Harrison is an excellent Instructor. Rare combination when a Great Player is a Great Teacher! Bobby patiently goes the extra mile to demonstrate the licks so you have absolutely no doubt as to how there is to be played in the context of the song. Its a great Solo! I'm half way there with growing confidence I will be able to nail this Solo when this course is finished. Going back today to start reviewing Volume one. Thanks Bobby, Bill Murphy

Really like all the FretHub courses - nice pace with lots of solo ideas and plenty of useful theory as well, but introduced as part of the play along. Fun presenter and the course covers the key scales and theory, rhythm basics and an extended solo.
By Stelios Anastasiades on 5/20/2017
No explanation on timing and where the licks fit over the chord changes. Tabs would be helpful in visualizing how the licks relate to the progression. Otherwise, the solo is great and broken down in easy to follow segments.

The instructor does a very nice job of explaining the theory, and then demonstrating, and then repetition. It's all about putting in the time and being patient.
