Course Description

Build Android Apps with App Inventor 2

Everybody has a great idea for an app. The problem is, not many of those people have the skills or knowledge required to make that idea a reality. Building an app, regardless of its simplicity or platform, requires certain technical know-how like coding, UX/UI design, and more. App Inventor 2, however, cuts through all of the smoke and allows anyone – even those with no coding experience – to build Android apps from the ground up. This course will teach you how.

Build Apps Without Learning Code!

  • Gain a practical understanding of programming basics
  • Navigate and use App Inventor 2 efficiently and effectively
  • Create and build your own apps for Android
  • Test and update your apps after you've built them
  • Learn how to publish your app to Google's Play Store

Android Apps in an Instant

This course will teach you everything you need to know about building apps – without the complicated coding normally required. If you have a good internet connection, a basic understanding of what an Android app is, and a great idea for an app that doesn't yet exist, then you're the perfect candidate! While the course is aimed at beginner programmers or those with no coding experience whatsoever, experienced app builders who want to learn from a new angle will benefit too.

During the 204 lectures and 17 hours of content contained within this course, you'll learn the basics of programming in a fun and practical way, while creating fully fledged, ready-to-use Android apps. You'll start off with setting up App Inventor 2 and choosing the options you'll need for your future apps. Then you'll get to know the interface and tools before diving straight in and creating not one, not two, but TEN apps. These apps will increase in complexity as you work through them, using features such as the component editor and blocks editor.

When you've built your ten apps you'll also learn how to test, update, and publish them to the Play Store. By the end of this course, you'll be an advanced app builder using App Inventor 2.

Tools Used

App Inventor 2 is an open source web application originally developed by Google and now maintained by MIT. It is aimed at beginner programmers and specially designed to enable them to build Android apps. It turns complicated coding language into visual drag and drop blocks, so there is no need for the user to learn code before building their apps.

Excellent, loving it. Live viewing of examples how he developed the apps. Could improve more by more well planning, but hey you got to be switched on if you are too be a developer. :) Got me started...thank you!

Great and exciting course!! Starting from very simple concepts, the different built apps contains increasing complexity and functionality, making a very interesting and fun programming journey!

This has been a blast. The activities are easy to follow. Thank you for a very comprehensive explanation and examples provided in each project. I like also the way the presentation is done.

The pace of the course is just right for a beginner, the examples used are excellent each one demonstrating functions you will need for making a useful app. I'm half way through and loving it.

I've completed 105 videos and nearly completed the sixth app. I wanted to get thru 50% of them before writing a review. Wow got to say, I feel pretty good that I could put my own app together. Working thru the sixth app was feeling a little rushed but then, duh, I could slow it down as well as rewind and review. So far, it shows a well-executed course. The apps are pretty cool too! I'll write more when I finish but up to this point, I would recommend this course. 8/2/18 Final review. I've completed the entire course! The course is the same at the start, in the middle and through the finish. Everything was easy to follow unless you don't; I mistakenly selected TinywebDB instead of TinyDB. I would recommend this course to anyone because of MIT App Inventor and this course. Great job. My thanks!

Very good course to learn how to program with MIT App Inventor 2. I definitely learned pretty much all the useful basics of App Inventor. I hope the instructor can make some time to make one advanced course of App Inventor because there are many more that App Inventor can do than the class taught. I definitely like to learn more about it and make better app from it.

I was ready to throw in the towel because I couldn't figure out the email form and why it wasn't working properly after following the directions carefully. I spent several days trying to figure this out. The issue was caused by me sending email from my google account from me to me on the same phone same Google account. The best way to do this exercise, in my opinion, is by recruiting family and friends sending them test emails. Or, set up a Test Google Account separately and only access that account from your desktop/Laptop/tablet but NOT your Android Phone. Things become very confusing for Google and your Android phone. Other than that, I recommend this course to anyone who is looking to learn Android design. Follow the instruction of installing App Inventor 2 on your computer, Install "MIT AI2 Companion" found on GooglePlay to your Android phone. As you are following the course, build the apps with the instructor. Good Luck! Tip: Pay close attention to the instructor's input and make sure your input is the same. Check to see if your app is working after every new feature that is added. Good Luck and stay patient. Never Give Up!

Not able to get some of the functionality working. Tick boxes would not check. Player sounds would not play on Chapter app. (Not sure why player was used as opposed to sound as supposed to be for longer files.) No mention was made on how/where to get play icon. Very brief look as what sound files AppInv2 likes. Should recommend a few.

First up, I think the quality of the presentations and the videos are awesome. For someone like me, who got to know of app inventor only during the last week, this course gave me confidence to set out on making my own apps. Still I have given 4 stars, as I thought two things were missing from this course - (a) SQLite -> How do we use along with App Inventor (b) Examples 9 and 10 were probably not required. Rather if we had some app that connected to an external MySql db though Web component, that would have been awesome. Nevertheless, a great course and fantastic videos. I would recommend this to my friends certainly.

The MIT App Inventor is an easy tool to build applications. The instructor gives a very clear step-by-step understanding of the different components that are always put into practice by building apps. So far, all of them are useful and give me ideas to build simple apps for education or small projects. I'm glad I took this well done course.
