CodeIgniter for Beginners: Build a Complete Web Application (Udemy.com)

I like the short video format and overall length of the course. That said, I found it strange that we spent so long creating and managing users for an app that probably wouldn't have any. For example, there's no ability for users to do basic formatting of their posts, they can only add 1 long paragraph for the content. It would be more useful if users could at least have a some control over the presentation. Also in my opinion, the course is not ideal for 'beginners,' even though it's marketed that way. I've had some Object Oriented Programming experience and understand the basics but it was difficult to keep up with. Other than some frustration with those things, the course moves quickly and I like that each video focuses on 1 specific topic. It may work well for you if you've had extensive experience using other frameworks, but I wouldn't recommend it for beginners.

It took me about 25 days to complete this course, dedicating my time to it every morning, afternoon, and night. That's why I am confident in leaving this review upon completing the course. Firstly, the lecturer's extensive experience is evident throughout the course, as he has covered virtually everything I am sure that are required to build a web application. Not only, blog app. Secondly, the lecturer consistently provides links to all the resources used. This allowed me to learn from start to finish without needing to reach out for help. Whenever I encountered issues, I reviewed and studied the materials provided by the lecturer intensively, then returned to the course. This process enabled me to debug and fix all errors by myself, reinforcing my understanding and confidence in my learning. Thirdly, I was pleasantly surprised to find that a course created about three years ago is still up-to-date in 2024. I realized that the lecturer regularly updates the course, making it an excellent choice for anyone interested in learning CodeIgniter with industry techniques and best practices of recent time. And lastly, all the videos are just very short, concise explanation but with deep and necessary infomation. This approach has made the course to be very interested as nothing no long story to keep you bored!!! Thank you, Mr. Dave. The skills I acquired in your course are far more valuable than the money I spent on it. I have joined your YouTube Channel and look forward to learning more from an experienced programmer like you. Thank you, sir. RECOMMENDATION If you enrol in this course, make sure to study the materials provided by the lecturer alongside the videos. Started this course with knowledge in basic PHP and wanted to learn a MVC framework. This course is a great way to do a code along because it is quite fast and you have to pause regularly to write it on your own. The lecturer explains everything he does and also implement his code in a systematic approach, where he explains and code the basics and later adapt those basics into more efficiency by reducing duplicate coding and approach it in a modular design way. This allows you to learn how to use it and also improve it in some ways, which the lecturer also explains clearly. It is a great way to get started, but it does not include a lot of custom coding between different models or tables and focused more on the basics. In that said you learn enough to be able to expand your projects with the knowledge he teaches. There is also no styling involved such as custom styling, which means if your aim is to learn styling with a functional app, then it is not covered here. Overall great experience and learned a lot of new tricks and will definitely implement them in my projects.

You are definitely one of the best teachers of PHP/CI in history, and I hold the same evaluation for your other courses. However, I still hope that the course can keep up with the times, such as using Docker configuration, more different application projects such as CI RESTFul API. I believe that a good backend course, like your teaching, should have a little front-end explanation and detailed backend explanation.

I'm very satisfied having completed this course. The amount of CodeIgniter topics covered is impressive: -from the fundamentals of controllers, models and views -to how CodeIgniter supports database migrations and seeding, Entity classes, working with forms and form validation, defining libraries, pagination, creating restricted areas, styling via Bulma, internationalization, etc. The scope covered was impressive as well as Dave's commentary and examples used. Well done Dave, thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Sehr zufrieden, ich nehme diesen Kurs (bzw. das Ergebnis) immer als Vorlage für meine Projekte, weil einfach alles, was ein Projekt braucht, dort auch beschrieben wird !!! Auch die neue Version sagt mir vollkommen zu und ist für zukünftige Projekte zu gebrauchen. Einziger Wehrmutstropfen ist, dass der Teil mit dem Wechseln der Sprache entfallen ist. Dieser lässt sich auch nicht mehr nachholen, da der alte Kurs ja weg ist. Aber ich habe Hoffnung, dass es vielleicht ein Update mit der Lokalisation der App gibt. Very satisfied, I always use this course (or the result) as a template for my projects, because everything that a project needs is described there!!! I also really like the new version and can be used for future projects. The only downside is that the part about changing the language has been omitted. This can no longer be made up because the old course is gone. But I'm hopeful that there might be an update with the localization of the app.

It's a good course to learn the basics of Codeigniter 4. Well explained, easy to understand. However, i think there is a lack of good coding practices. Better coding practices, for example, could have avoided us to change the code of every form in the app individually only to update the CSS... Also, there is an important module missing in that course: testing. Codeigniter comes with a built-in testing system, which is totally ignored in this course. As a result, if I want to test my code, I must do more research or do another course to learn how to use this testing system.

This is an excellent course from one of the best instructors in the PHP/MVC subject matter. In CodeIgniter 4: Build a Complete Web Application from Scratch, Dave demonstrates the features of the new CodeIgniter, one by one, and he also explains how to write a minimal yet production grade web application that is secure enough to be published on a live server. This is my fifth course from Dave and I can only recommend this course. The course resources are well organized. For every video, there is a folder that contains the state of the source code that matches that particular video. If you get lost, you can reorient yourself by checking the individual resource files. I also like that Dave has the habit of introducing some other topics that are not key to the given course. For example, in his MVC course, I liked that he presented the basics of Twig, a templating library. In this course he presents the very basics of the Bulma CSS library. While I am in the Bootstrap 5 space, I really like Bulma and am planning to incorporate it for my landing page projects. Let me share my personal experience. Truth is that I have always wanted to learn Yii but ended up with CodeIgniter 4. Sometimes you need to pick a technology that has superior documentation and training materials based on where you are at the moment versus a better technology that lacks training resources for your current skill level. I am relatively new in the PHP and web application development scene and while playing with some of the MVC frameworks out there I found that what I needed was the Yii framework. However, even though I spent reasonable time on it I simply could not really take off with Yii. I figured that what I was missing was a thorough explanation on how MVC frameworks work internally. So, I took Dave's MVC framework course which explained the core concepts. It was like an enlightenment. Before that, I could not find a single training material, book or course, that has managed to explain the very basics for me. So, after fixing the basics with Dave's MVC course I took this CodeIgniter course. As a result, I will just stick to CodeIgniter for a year or so before moving on. Because I kinda like it. The experience with it has been surprisingly good. It has up/down migration, seeding, and built-in templating. My take is that as long as the migration and seeding is written in PHP (Forge) the built-in test framework can automatically populate the test data in an in-memory SQLite database which is quick enough to avoid the overhead of mocking the database API. Finally, it would be good to get the following topics covered in the future: * Production grade REST APIs with CodeIgniter: with all the security explained: OAuth, GWT, all the required stuff that is required to publish the API on a live hosting server. * Unit, Controller and UAT (?Feature?) testing using the CodeIgniter framework for REST APIs and traditional back-end rendering web apps, similar to taskapp. Maybe with BDD style test names in the test reports if that is possible (but without all the Cucumber BS). * A beginner's course like this on the (never?) upcoming Yii3.

This is the fourth course I have taken on Udemy and all have been with Dave as the instructor. He is very knowledgeable in this area and if you have any questions you can always contact him and get a quick answer. I am more than enthusiastic about his way of lecturing and find it very easy to follow what is said and also to implement it directly. All aspects are explained exactly and understandable and then directly with the live output again clarified. I can highly recommend this and other courses from Dave.

Dave is a great teacher/instructor, he always delivers what is promised in the course description, and this course is just one more example of it. The course really goes through most CodeIgniter4 features. It is not just as a step-by-step tutorial (like most programming instructors) but a complete learning experience where Dave makes sure you really understand why you need certain feature and how it works. When you go live with your own project you can confidently code what you have in mind and don’t find lost because there was something not specifically explained step-by-step. That’s how great this course is. Thanks Dave for another great course.
