Course Description

Are you wanting to get into Web development, but are not sure where to start?
So maybe you tried out some PHP and MySQL tutorials on Youtube, but found them too hard or outdated, and feel that you need a more comprehensive introduction.
Maybe you want to learn how to write PHP the right way. Secure code, OOP ready, and maximising re-usability as well as finding out about PHP programming standards to adopt and adhere too?
Perhaps your boss or client threw you in the deep end with a PHP and MySQL project, and you need to get up to speed with PHP, fast.
Whatever the reason, this course is for you.
This course is going to teach you how to create web applications using PHP and MySQL. Specifically, you will learn PHP and then create you own content management system (CMS) from scratch.

Why PHP?
PHP is the most popular website programming language in the world. The combination of PHP and MySQL is used extensively to create web applications, and developers with these key skills are in high demand. This course is going to teach you how to create web applications in PHP using the MySQL database.
What will you learn in this course?
You will learn how to create a dynamic website using the most popular website programming language in the world, PHP.
Dave Hollingworth, your instructor will teach you the PHP programming language, and take you through the steps to build a working CMS in PHP and MySQL from scratch.
Along the way, you will learn how to secure your code, how to write reusable, more maintainable code using programming standards, and how to structure your code using object-oriented programming techniques.
Dave will teach you the theory and then put the theory into practice when building the CMS.
You will also learn how to style your site using Bootstrap, how to integrate third-party code into your site, how to store data in a relational database and use this from PHP code, and more.
The course is very thorough, and goes through everything from installing a web server on your own computer, and editor to writing the code to create your web app. Towards the end of the course you will even learn how to upload the code and make your code live on the internet (very useful if you already have your own Hosting account). This is not necessary to complete the course though.
In summary, the course will teach you the core skills you need to know to become a productive PHP programmer.
Why this course?

Firstly, Dave has been creating web applications since 1999, when he created his first web application for a major insurance company. In addition he has been teaching IT for many years.
As a result, you will be learning the best practices from an experienced developer.
Dave will teach you the theory but then show how to put those techniques into practice. You will start building a CMS application from early on in the course and new techniques and theory are introduced as and when they're needed to build the next part of the CMS.
New code is introduced one word or one line at a time, so you will never get bogged down or overwhelmed.
You will also learn real-world developer skills such as referring to and getting the most out of the documentation. This is an essential skill for developers to learn.

After completing this course, you will have the necessary skills to be able to create your own web applications with PHP and MySQL.

The sooner you sign up for this course, the sooner you will have the skills and knowledge you need to increase your job or consulting opportunities. PHP developers are in high demand!
Your new job or consulting opportunity awaits!

Clear and concise. Information packed. A great reference resource you can come back to again and again. Fast paced, not really a code along course.

Amazing course! A well structured and detailed course gives an in-depth knowledge and explanations in clear and concise manner. Each and every section helps to learn PHP programming in an easy way. Dave's teaching style is excellent which helps you understanding the programming concept clearly. Looking forward to more such courses. Thanks for this wonderful course.

What can I say? Dave is clear, concise, knowledgeable and responds in a timely manner. Dave's explanations are on point, even though the concepts can sometimes tricky to understand. There was a point on this course when I really began to understand how to implement and design my own code. 10/10, would recommend to anyone who wants to learn PHP.

This is definitely one of the best PHP courses I have taken, the concepts are explained clearly and the project includes most of what has been taught in the whole course. Thanks Dave for this amazing course!

Having programmed websites for the past five years in PHP and Codeigniter, I would not call myself a beginner by any means. However, I decided that I wanted to become a better programmer. After taking the Write PHP Like a Pro course, I decided that I wanted to build my own framework and so I decided that I would take this one. This course starts off for beginners then quickly moves (I think) into the intermediate stage. I say this because it is unlike any beginners level course in PHP I have seen or taken. Thanks, guys!

I think this is a really solid, succinct course that helped me understand the basics of PHP development. Having a tangible end product that you work to throughout the course is fabulous. The only problem I had is how quickly it moves when essential steps are being taken. For example, editing multiple elements all at once proved to be frustrating for me. The instructor says something along the lines of "now we have to change all of these to X" and they are instantly changed or large blocks of necessary code are cut and past very quickly. I would frequently have to pause the video and back up. Not the worst thing ever but just some feedback.

This was an excellent begginers course in PHP and with a nice introduction to other technologies and languages such as JavaScript (with JQuery and Ajax) and HTML/CSS. Dave delivered everything clearly and to the point without bogging it down wth more complex details that are better suited for more advanced courses. We were pointed to all the places to get the resources and where there were more doc's and info. The end result is a nice little CMS blog app and all the code as a reference point. I wrote all the code by hand and only really used the resources to check things if I needed, which was surpisingly not that often. All the courses resources and code are added and follow each lecture at the specific stage. Being a video, it was easy to pause and go back on things if unsure and with each lesson in the sections bite sized, you could go back over anything you were unclear of without feeling like having to trowl through long videos to find bit you needed to repeat or re-look over (I am aware of bookmarks, but don't need them as each lesson covers a specific bite-sized aspect).I have a few more of thier courses on ice and feel that when I decide to tackle them I will get another good experience.I hardly had to used the Q&A, in fact I think the only thing I posted was to just point out the only mistake I came across which was a missing letter on one word in one lesson title. This was responded to very quickly and the word updated as quickly. A couple of times I wanted to ask a question, but this was already answered in the Q&A so no need to eaven ask stuff for me.So well done for a well structured and developed course. I have tried others, some good and some really lacking in comparison. All the stars from me :)

The course was very enlightening. I enjoyed the structure and the build upon previous concepts idea used.

Overall, I find this course quite good and helpful. One point of criticism: It's a bit hard to follow the code sometimes because it goes quite quickly and because the code becomes very expansive and builds on previous code. Since we're not writing the code as a student, it's hard to keep track of what part of the code is doing what. Making the code available helps, but doesn't resolve the issue entirely for me. I'm not sure as to how you might address this issue further.

Dave is the best teacher by far, hands down, slam dunk. You get the idea. He is very helpful, very prompt in responding and his responses are really informative and not just to "going through the motions" like other teachers. He even gives you references to increase your knowledge. He really goes the extra mile to help his students. It is incredible where he gets his dedication, enthusiasm and energy. He will even help you with some questions outside the course but I try to not abuse it. I am looking forward to other courses he will offer in the future.

Moving fast, learning much. "Zero" to "website" in days to weeks but with modular knowledge that builds and is flexible. Not just, "follow as I say exactly" with no true understanding.
