Comprehensive Ruby Programming (Udemy.com)

There was a lot of good information, however when the instructor start talking about more advanced functions (at about sections 9 and 10) of the Ruby language, he doesn't spend as much time explaining what he is doing. It also felt as though he went through some sections too fast. I tried to follow along, because I learn better through doing, but there were some items that I couldn't figure out what to do. I don't remember much information about debugging in Ruby. I know there was the error resolution/handling, but not debugging. It would be nice to have a debugging section.

Best intro to a programming language course I've taken. We didnt waste hours going over the most basic stuff but we did cover it and we went wayyyyy deeper into ruby than I imagined we would. This course really builds up what you learn, first you start with hashes and by the end you are writing basic prediction algos. Super cool! I would love a follow up course that isa deep dive into apis and big data analysis with ruby. Jordan knows his sh*t and only teaches practical lessons which I love! My only complaint is that you can hear him breath into the mic fairly often, if you are using a headset it's annoying, with regular speakers you probably wouldn't even notice it. Overall this is an A+ course!

It is a somewhat good course but could be improved tremendously. The instructor doesn't provide in-depth explanations of many topics, just an overview of some particular use cases. He doesn't seem knowledgeable enough of many fundamental topics like polymorphism, doesn't follow good coding practices like documenting code, and in general sounds too empirical. The best part of the course are the algorithm examples after the sorting algorithms. Learned a lot doing the exercises by myself. Could also be improved leaving more practical exercises for students to do them themselves.

I've been working with with Ruby on Rails for some time now and always felt like I should go back and learn Ruby separately to pick up on any techniques I could use to tighten up my ruby code. In this course I found a plethora of methods, arguments and examples that I will bring into my production apps as well as future applications. Thanks, Jordan!

Ruby has always been the goal post too far for me. Always heard about it. Good things but no matter how times I tried to studied, the understanding always alluded me. Even when I signed on to Udemy, It was one of the first courses I purchased but I could never get myself to spend time on it. If it wasn't for the updates from Jordan about adding more and more material as a constant reminder, I probably wouldn't have finally finished it. Having completed my share of Udemy courses, Jordan has something thats unique. His communications is extremely clear, and very very well paced. The course is almost perfect. I gave 4.5 only because Udemy doesn't allow 4.8-4.9 as a score. The 0.2 I would take away is because I could use a few more chances to practise. You don't really get that chance to do that until around Lesson 75 and also, it feels like the goal is to get you to study Ruby on Rails instead of Ruby itself as most of the course is explained with the air of "if you did this in Rails, you would need to do ..." kind of vibe. For me personally, like I said, I must have tried X amount of times and I didn't know there was even a difference between Ruby and Ruby on Rails. But now I do. There is still a lot of unknowns and I still need a lot of practise on my own but for 10 hours. I just ticked off one of my coding enigmas.

Very good introduction to ruby. Examples are up to date and the videos are excellent. Content is very well covered and extensive. Coding examples are fun, although some of them feel like we're cheating by calling library functions that solve most of the problems (e.g., calling Integer#lcm to find the least common multiple). Of course, there is also merit in learning some of these library functions. Looking forward to his other courses.

I really liked this course but feel is it somewhat geared to those with a bit of experience under their belt. If you are a noob, you might have to go a little slower and practice with self-generated examples. I've got many years of coding behind me so I was able to follow along and do all of the examples (except the algorithms section) at x2 speed. I was looking for a firehose to drink from and found it here. His intro 'Edutechional' sound effects at at the start of each video is somewhat intrusive and repetitive but ignorable. x2 speed helps there as well. Thanks for putting together a solid intro to Ruby.

I thought that Jordan was a great instructor. This course is a great introduction to overall Ruby but I would have loved more information on oop, database integration, frameworks and api. Overall, fantastic pacing and engaging. I definitely loved the examples for algorithm and when he is explaining how he thinks which is one of the greatest challenges in learning how to think like a developer.

Clear and concise explanations with examples. Jordan guides you every step of the way on your understanding of Ruby, breaking down concepts for a beginner to understand. Excellent value for the course. Good pace and length for the videos unlike some other courses with videos that are too long. The course would definitely have more viewers, if it had more real world applications, such as with spreadsheets (excel) and webscraping.

After starting a web development bootcamp I decided to look into resources to learn the Ruby programming language. Having little to no experience I decided to look into several different options. After doing my research I decided to take Jordan’s Comprehensive Ruby Programming course. I’m happy to say after completing the course I could not be more happy with the content being taught, community involved and most important responsive feedback from Jordan. The course is great for beginners learning about programming let alone Ruby. I can’t tell you how many times I reached out to Jordan with question and each and every time Jordan responded w/ further explanation and additional resources. Jordan’s teaching style is engaging, which is extremely important considering the online format and subject material. Please understand this course is not an end all be all answer to understanding Ruby, however it gives you the tools necessary to start your journey. If you’re looking to learn Ruby, I strongly recommend you look into this course. It will not disappoint.

It's a great course, to be honest, the best I ever saw. I think include some topics like "symbols" and maybe change the "Big data analysis" for another topic will be a plus.

Great Course. Great information for someone learning ruby for the first time. The book was a great help in learning about Ruby. Jordan Hudgens is a great instructor and I hope to catch more of his courses.
