Course Description

If you design and implement projects in the area of Process Automation or SCADA, you will know from your experience that "one size does not fit all" when it comes to data acquisition and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs). There is always some type of customization to be done. Always some feature that the standard HMI software does not offer.

And sometimes, using a very expensive HMI with all sorts of bells and whistles for a small project can just be overkill. There are times when you just need a very simple application that acquires a few data points from a Modbus network and displays them on a computer screen.

These are the reasons for this course!

I teach you how to use FREE TOOLS with some basic programming to create your own Modbus Master application and Human Machine Interface.

If you apply yourself in this course and execute all that I ask you to do, then at the end, you would have a finished Windows Modbus Application that you can customize to your heart's content!

This is the start of your journey into a whole new area of Process Automation / SCADA and one that is increasingly in very high demand!

Looking forward to seeing you on the inside!

Emile Ackbarali

I have been working in the fields of Software Development, Software Systems Integration and Process Automation since 1996. In 2003, I stepped out on my own and started working for myself providing software development and systems integration services to small and medium businesses.

Teaching has always been a passion for me. I have taught at the tertiary level for many years on the subjects of programming, control systems as well as systems integration. In the last few years I found myself incorporating more and more videos into the curriculum with amazing results.

When I heard of uDemy I just could not help but sign up. With teaching in a classroom, you can reach only so many students, but with uDemy you can reach the world! I plan to publish and promote as many courses as I possibly can on the uDemy platform.

really great explanation and keep follow hands on excited to see my result. please if i need to divide or multiply the value from holding register how to do some maths in scripts because my modbus slave value i need to divide by 10 and show on the scada

It is too good to understand Modbus communication in a simple manner. We would like to connect remote device on serial as well as TCP/IP connection using Modbus address for several slave devices. Please help us to developed such applications.

It is very exciting for me to go through that courses because it give me the opportunity to understand more about the different component needed to make communicate plc to our computer

By Antonio Fonseca Alvarado on 6/4/2019

I thought it was a good course, it is not that it is programming in VB, but it fully fulfills the objective. It could have been better if I added a video of how it looks in a physical PLC, like in the Modbus course. I highly recommend it, it is not to learn ModBus, but it is the next step.

a nice introduction to creating a HMI in the virtual studio environment. Instructor is quite good--clear and concise. I am pretty familiar with Virtual Studio--and I think this made it much easier to follow. If one had no experience in VS--and no prior programming--I think this would be a hard course to follow. If you are new to programming and are committed to learning the VS environment and VB in general--good interesting starting point--but expect to spend more time on VB component attributes and general syntax, etc.

This is my second course with this instructor and he didn't disappoint. I feel ready to dive deeper into modbus programming, and I very much enjoy the instructor's pace, enthusiasm, clarity of presentation, and organization. I already purchased two more of the instructor's courses on modbus for microcontrollers, and I'm eager to start. Thanks!

I am somewhat disappointed as I expected the course to go into the nuts and bolts of the physical modbus packets, how to bind to a winsock connection/serial port. Using VB makes it a bit too simple for me :-) Nonetheless, this is an excellent starting point for any person starting out with the basics of what modbus is and can do. Some additional explanation to what modbus is might also help novice programmers. I really hope to see an advanced version of this course where the raw nuts and bolts are discussed and programmed. Still, job well done.

Mr. Emile is such a great teacher in this course. I am so amazed by the content in this course, it is very detailed and compressed. Furthermore, this course had helped me a lot in my final year project and I highly recommend this course for beginners that wanna learn .NET programming.

So far, I have accomplished something I couldn't make without this course. The teacher explains everything step by step and in a clearly, plain way. The best thing, I tried the code in one of the products I work on, and it worked right away! Well, i finished today this course. As i said before, i am now playing with the real world using the project we built here in this course and so far it is working, so i will need to expand the code to do automation using PLCs to test modules.

merging programming skills with my knowledge and experience in industrial automation and SCADA systems is just what I needed. the course has been most helpful. We also use other protocols like iec60870-5-101/4 and iec61850. I will look for libraries and try to implement them as well. it will be better though to be able to write the library functions.
