Our take
Based on the ratings of 776 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in July 2018. No course pays to be reviewed.
Thomas Mitchell's course is a short, task-by-task tour of Azure virtual machines in PowerShell. It runs about 2.1 hours over 28 lectures. The syllabus starts with PowerShellGet and the Azure module, then covers deploying a VM, picking marketplace images, resizing, power states, data disks and snapshots. It is aimed at IT professionals who have a basic grasp of Azure and can open a PowerShell window. Nobody here is learning PowerShell from scratch, and the lessons are built around doing one admin job at a time.
Reviewers like how clearly each cmdlet is explained, and the demos and assignments give them something to try. The rating is 4.6 from 776 reviews, with most scores at four or five stars. The complaints are consistent. The course was last updated in July 2018 and uses the AzureRM module. One student reports a deprecation warning, and several ask for Az or newer commands instead. Others mention blurry video that is hard to read, commands not supplied in a text file, and a promised resource zip that one 2-star reviewer could not find.
Teaching gets praise for being easy to follow, though one reviewer says it ran longer than advertised. Don't expect advanced material such as custom script extensions or deploying apps onto the VM. As a way to see the shape of VM management in PowerShell, it works. As a current reference, it does not, so plan to translate commands to the Az module as you go. Worth a look for admins who want a quick, structured start.
Pros
- Each cmdlet is explained clearly, so the steps are easy to follow
- Demos and assignments give students plenty to try hands-on
- Covers a practical VM workflow: resize, data disks, snapshots, VMs from snapshots
- Short at a listed 2.1 hours, so it is a quick way in
Cons
- Last updated July 2018 and built on AzureRM, which one reviewer says is deprecated
- One reviewer found the video hard to read, and another wanted the commands as a text file
- No advanced cases such as custom script extensions or app deployment
Great class, provided plenty of demos and assignments which the student can then try out.
Labeled beginner, but it assumes basic Azure knowledge and that you can launch PowerShell, so it suits junior admins.

Nice course! Well explained from the beginning. All steps are explained in details. It would be more beautiful had we get all these commands in a txt file. We got a few. Copying the rest from the video.

I had great Experience, although all commands work perfectly but I get this warning That AzureRM Module is deprecated, I think if there is new Az Module then the course should be updated with that.

This course is amazing. Anybody who can have basic knowledge of unix language, can easily understand this powershell training.

The course was very help and very easy to understand, looking forward for more courses of yours. The only thing which I did not like was the quality of video as it was very hard to read the commands on the screen, please update HD videos if possible so that we don't have to put stress on our eyes to see what is on the screen. Rest, the course was excellent and so was your way of teaching. Thank you.

I learned a lot from this course. But I thought it will include the deployment of Applications to a VM. I wonder which course will teach that. Overall, this course is very useful for me. I reckon I can play with what I have learned so far. It made understand VMs more. Thank you so much my good sir. :)

one slight improvement.. MS has a deal for a free trial of Azure now, but not all aspects of azure are available. It can get tricky to follow along if you aren't aware of that from the start. otherwise, great course.

Took a little getting used to transposing Az for AzureRm but not bad. I actually like the course pretty well. Good delivery of material. Nice and steady pace.

You do have a great way of explaining things. I love your calm voice. What I am missing though is that you don't seem to realize that a whole bunch of people are living in other regions than EastUS. The problem with that is the location you have to provide. For me that's 'West Europe'. This is the location I get when I tab through the locations even in the Update-AzureRmVM command. But when I run the command it tels me that I can not use 'West Europe' because it does not equal to westeurope. I think you should have pointed this out.

This is the second Azure course I took. The first was fully portal-based (even though with some scripting examples), so this one, as I hoped, was a good addition. Also, it is a good practice with Power Shell.
