FAQ

- What do I need to know to join the course?

Basic knowledge of Java will suffice. Knowing the fundamentals of Multithreading and Concurrency may help but is not required.

- Will this course help me in System Design Interviews?

Yes. Distributed Systems questions are frequently asked during System Design Interviews, especially by large companies that operate on a massive scale. The skills you will learn in this course will help you in your career both while interviewing and working on real projects

- Do I need to pay for any software or Cloud account?

No. All the technologies covered in the course are free and open-source. The lectures on the cloud don't require you to pay for anything. If you want to follow along, all cloud vendors provide free-tier accounts to play around with and practice for free. Please follow the specific cloud vendor's documentation for guidance.

- Can I run and develop a Distributed System locally on my personal computer?

Yes. You can develop and run a distributed system on your computer and you don't need to buy any additional hardware. Generally, most distributed computing development is done on a single computer before it goes to QA and production.

- Is this the right course for me if I want to become a Software Architect or Technical Lead?

Yes. This is the right place for you to gain practical Software Architecture and Distributed Computing skills to become a Software Architect and Technical Lead. Thanks to the advancement of Cloud Computing, most companies today run distributed systems and deploy them on the cloud. So the skills taught in this course are critical to being a successful Software Architect in the modern era.

This course provides a solid introduction to distributed systems and cloud computing concepts using Java. The content is well-structured and explains core ideas clearly with the help of demo projects and illustrative examples. I found the demonstrations helpful for understanding how distributed system components interact in real-world scenarios. The course focuses more on concept clarity supported by demos rather than deep, large-scale implementations, which makes it suitable for building a strong foundational understanding. Overall, it’s a valuable course for developers who want to learn distributed systems concepts with Java in a clear and structured way.

Yet another great course from the author. There are no slides left for the main points, and I think that this is an issue, each time I have to go and rewind videos if I want to remind something. Great examples but not all of them work, some of them have to be updated. I had issues with the starting of the Zookeeper example for the document search. I think that the part for the Ditributed Mongo DB is too dense and needs some more lections. Aside from those issues I love this course.

Truly wonderful course. Not only that the course went at high pace, but every seconds in the course counted also. I had to go through the chapters 2 or 3 times as I am new to Java and because of the speed of the delivery. And it was fun every time. The course is a testament of how to make a training video, how to value someone time, bring a lasting change in someone life. There is zero unwanted sentences, zero unneeded information and zero show off. Straight, clear, and truly genuine effort to help. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. It made learning exciting and fun. hoping to see more of such courses.

Thanks for your courses! I passed two of your courses, and unfortunately the last course was not available to me due to the location. I am in no way involved in what is happening now on our territory, but I think that only education can defeat darkness and ignorance. It is strange that Udemy punished for nothing people who do not stand with weapons in their hands, but serve the world with their intellect.

This course contains some useful information about cloud computing, but to me it mostly provides high level overviews of a number of systems and unrelated to the subject algorithms such as TF-IDF rather than focusing on the main subject of Distributing Systems & Cloud Computing. Quite a few important concepts were left out, or were just mentioned without providing many details about them.

This is a very unique course and has a novel approach to understanding Distributed computing. Liked the flow of the course. Got to learn a lot of new things. Towards the end of the course, It might seem a bit overwhelming and rushed through for someone who has not encountered say Kafka or Mongo DB. With some familiarity with both, it was fine for me.

I had already taken Michael's Java Multi-threading, Concurrency & Performance Optimization and I really loved it. This one was even better. The course and the slides are also very structured, but the course touches so many subjects and it does give the student very valuable knowledge. I hope Michael plans to publish more courses, because I can't wait to take them!

Brilliant course. The course material is well-structured and the transition from one topic to another is seamless. The course helps in understanding all the different components involved in a distributed system and how they are pieced together. Michael explains everything you need to understand and follows up with practical examples. The ease at which everything is explained is also reflective of Michael's in-depth knowledge and understanding of the topic. Thank you Michael for this exemplary course!

By Rahul Jain on 12/27/2019

This Course is Really Awesome. Instructor has done a Great Job by providing an actual implementation of document search use case to design a System. Also the Instructor is really help as he answer all the query in Q&A. I Would definitely recommend this course who are preparing for system design interview or just want to understand how large scale system are designed.

By Elena Kardi on 12/6/2019

This course is simply amazing. Michael is very concise and strict to the point, while at the same time he provides just enough theoretical material for you to grasp the concept. I also liked very much they way he sometimes skips less important parts of the code in the video, so that you get the opportunity to implement them yourselves and by doing so you immerse even more into the material. Great job! I will be looking forward to more courses from Michael.
