Course Description

Learn to draw! This Figure Drawing course is designed to help you develop your powers of observation and equip you with multiple techniques to become the best artist you can be. It was inspired by the website I run called FigureDrawingCourses dot com, which is designed to help people learn how to tap in to their inner artist through life drawing.

This Udemy course features lectures that will teach you about: choosing perspective, the power of the pose, symmetry, finding the horizon line and much more. We will be focusing on how to draw various parts of the human body. This course is a bit unconventional because as we go through each body part I will also be teaching you different drawing techniques at the same time to keep it fun, interesting and educational.

The various techniques covered in this course include: gesture drawing, sketching and scribbling, line drawing, tonal simple lines and some great lectures on illustration techniques to learn comic book drawing.

For aspiring artists who want to draw the human body as realistically as possible, I will be covering in detail the importance of shadows, shape, negative space, the power of using light effectively, shading and rendering.

Also, at the end of the course there’s a 14 day challenge designed to encourage you to get into the habit of drawing every day. One of the biggest mistakes that artists make is not getting to work. My job is to get you excited about drawing and to equip you with the skills, tools and techniques that will help you to tap into the amazing artist that is within you.

Lets get started!

Solid course, good instructor, delivers as promised. Overall it was a pleasure to follow this course. The half point off is due to the prudish posing... which I found a bit annoying at some times. Poses become too artificial in some cases because of this and you get the idea the model is uncomfortable. Having said that, it does not take any value away from the purpose of this course.

Achei que teria técnicas mais avançadas de desenho, até o momento não vi nada que já não conhecesse, e o instrutor fica floriando muito as explicações.

On the positive side, this course is a good opportunity to exersice drawing. You could practice every day, so you get confidence. Instructor is a mild guy and give clear audio instructions. But... On the other side, instructor always draw the same way, using shorty little traces showing not so great ability and conviction lines. Even when he instructs to draw solid lines, or shadows, or expresion lines, or negative space. He always begin drawing this "velvety line" first. So you don't see the resulting difference when working on one technique or another. If you have little previous knowledge and really try the techniques, unfollowing instructor drawing, you could learn the differences. The models are always young female, no one is male. The models alway looks for a pose covering nipples, crotch and rear bottom. Even when there is a lesson on deawing breast! Come on, is a course to study the human body! Illumination over the model is more or less the same, so you can no practice different shadow conditions. And when there is a variant, there were so much dark. You won't learn to draw the human body when it is moving or from imagination with this course. It could be great if there were extra pdf materials and photographs to download to make the exersices. There is no extra materials.

I hate panning classes into which a lot of work has clearly been put, but by the time I got to the end I was pretty mad I had paid for this. Executive summary: the only reason to buy this course is to be able to spend hours staring at demurely posed naked 20-something women and say, "but honey, it's for art!" The video consists entirely of a split screen between a model and him drawing. With one exception (the muscle diagram in 5.11), everything he says is very hand-wavy with no visual annotation in the entire course - he will say things like "you can see a cool light here but a warm light here" but does not show us where "here" is. Similary in lecture 7.21 where he says, "being confident in your lines is extremely, extremely important," but does not explain what "confident" means or show which lines he considers "confident." As an instructional course, this is not a polished product. Lecture 2.3 is about the "power of the pose", in which he shows us merely two (2) poses. Lecture 3.6 is about the horizon line, but the reference image not only doesn't have a horizon line but also has no depth; lecture 3.7 has the same topic and the same problem, which he finally realizes is a bad example so he starts inventing objects to put in the scene in order to demonstrate vanishing points. Lecture 4.9 is about drawing muscles, but the model is a non-bodybuilding female. Lecture 4.10 is about bones, but he doesn't show us actual bones affecting drawings; he doodles bones over the top of his own sketch, which is the drawing affecting the bones instead! Lecture 5.12 is how to draw the "front torso", but the framing of the model is so far back it shows her thighs, where there is a very obvious tattoo that has nothing to do with the torso. Similarly in lecture 5.14 (how to draw a side view of the breasts), the framing is oddly a full-body shot. Lecture 6.18 in particular annoyed me. He referred to an artist named Felix Topolski, but didn't bother to cut in any examples to show us. He didn't even put the name up on the screen so that you'd know his first name is spelled "Feliks". Most of this course is just watching him sketch people, which might be okay if he were a master at sketching. However, the sketch in lecture 3.6 is so far from the reference image that it looks like a high schooler did it. The sketch from the very last lecture (the 14th day of the challenge) is almost as bad; his sketch makes the model look like she has Down's. To be fair, there were a few lectures I found informative. 6.17's gesture drawing, 6.18's scribbling, and 9.29's drawing-by-shadow are all techniques that have no inherent connection to "drawing the human figure" but were very interesting as drawing topics. On a technical level, the audio levels are inconsistent between lectures. (e.g. 4.10 is quieter than 4.9, then 5.12 is suddenly loud again, then 5.13 is quiet, and 5.16 is loud..among others.) There's a "please go to the next video!" message at the end of lectures 7.23 and 9.30 that is 33 seconds long. That's 66 seconds of complete dead time with no content, which seems an awful lot like padding to make the course seem longer. Finally, the instructor needs to join ToastMasters for a while so that he'll break the habit of relying on "um" and "utilize" as filler words. Sorry for the bad review but I was mad.

I was hoping to find a course that could help me sharpen my drawing skills and this one did just that! I've been drawing for 15 years and this was a great refresher. The way the models are presented in video form in this course is as close as we could get to actually being in a studio with a live model. 5 stars all around for this one!!!

I took this course because I was really interested in the comic book drawing lectures and they exceeded my expectations. I love illustration and drawing, so I've been looking for a class to help me to get better... this was the perfect class for that. The lectures are the perfect length and walk you through the basics while also touching on points that are related so that you grasp how the whole concept works. GREAT COURSE!!

I have taken many figure drawing classes in school and this one covers the basics in a way that wasn't boring or long-winded. It's the second best thing to having the live models in the room with you. Leslie Scott did a great job at explaining the material. If you are interested in figure drawing, this is a great course to take.

Definitely worth it. I've always been interested in figure drawing and this was a great introduction for me. Leslie covered so many different aspects that I feel like I have a good grasp of the artistic direction I want to go in. I was intimidated to draw at first, but this really helped me to loosen up and understand how to approach drawing. Two thumbs up. :)

There are some courses that are just impressive... this course is one of them! From the various techniques I learned, to studying the models that were filmed, I'm really glad I took this course. The lectures are fantastic for anyone who wants to hone their skills as an artist. I hope he posts more courses on Udemy. I highly recommend this if you are interested in drawing.

It's hard to know what to expect with these Udemy courses, but this one exceeded my expectations. The lectures were to the point and helped me gain an understanding of the body and it's surrounding environment. The 14 day challenge is a really great concept and made this course stand out from the others to me. I followed it every day and it definitely made me more motivated and confident by the end. I'm glad I took this course. Thanks so much Leslie.
