The Art & Science of Figure Drawing: GESTURE (Udemy.com)

I'm a self-taught artist and have been drawing for 20+ years - I picked up terrific tips in the very first lesson that will help me tremendously in gesture drawing. I've been wandering throughout my learning feeling as if I wasn't progressing:: I am grateful to have found this course which provides guidance through thoughtful instruction. The lessons are clearly described and demonstrated for each part of the body and taught as if in the studio with the instructor.

Really enjoying this course, which is helping me to improve my gesture drawing practice. I like how the course is structured into roughly 20 minute lessons/demonstrations followed by practice reels. I also like how the course begins by showing how to draw a basic line of action and the revisiting concepts in increasingly complex ways.

Brent is an exceptional teacher. His courses have been more beneficial to my art than in-person workshops I've attended that cost 10x more. The delivery of the material is engaging, well paced, polished and professional, and Brent comes as a personable teacher who really wants you to improve. I saw very dramatic improvements in my drawing. Would recommend to anyone interested in drawing.

I've been takin or trying to learn how to draw ever since I was kid because it was a skill I wanted to have in life. whatever book or course I read and took about drawing didn't work, I always felt that I wasn't getting because I was missing a key aspect somewhere in the fundamentals I somehow missed, constantly over the years. I could draw but I couldn't, especially if an art major wanted to see. I got it tho, finally, it was the lines, the axis lines which I remember skipping while reading the drawing books. I know this isn't the first and only course that teaches the main parts of the anatomy but it's his method that got it to click in my head. so yes I can draw now. if you're wondering whether or not you'll be able to draw after finishing this course, you will.

This is a really great course for learning gesture a.k.a. not drawing stiff figures. It requires a good knowledge of anatomy and experience in general drawing I would say at least 1-2 years, to fully extract the benefits of this course. Although there are 2 points which are missing and are vital from my perspective: • There are no male examples. We are primarly taught the female torso but there is no male exampes. Fortunately the tutor has also a youtube channel where he draws male examples. • No cheatseats for the practice reels. It would be nice to measure just how far we are from the tutors mind. I get that it might be artistic freedom but when you learn you need some grounding rules and examles to follow. If not for these 2 points it would have been an amazing course. I guess for the price, it really is!

The practice reels definitely match up with the lectures well. I've struggled to prioritize the big gestural lines in short poses before, and now it's starting to make more sense.

The course is quite involved. All the key elements in producing a gesture drawing have their own chapters and practice reels. That being said I don't think it's entirely suited to a beginner, you need some form of basic knowledge before embarking on it or you may well find it overwhelming. I can see myself referring back to the course for refinement in order to achieve a really good level. However, the course is good value for money.

The way gesture is break down in lessons that gradually increase in complexity is very helpful. The instructor does a great job in explaining more technical aspects of drawing, demonstrating how to use them and providing practices. I see an improvement not just in the final product of my drawing sessions, but mainly in the process, the way I observe and think about what I'm doing. That helped me a lot with issues such as overthinking about every line and erasing over and over again, which were a burden every time I tried to draw.

Very good instruction! Brett, I have gone through Gesture drawing 3 x's and it has helped tremendously knowing about the landmarks that pull a body together. And I continue to learn everytime I revisit the course. Soon I am on to shading :)

More example would be great.
