Lawrence M. Miller

Larry Miller is now teaching eighteen courses with more than 400,000 students in 210 countries on Udemy.  He is the author of eleven books, and has more than forty years of experience consulting with major corporations on their business performance, culture and management systems. Several of his courses on management and leadership are best selling courses in their category and have been adopted by major corporations as part of their leadership development and lean culture implementation process.

His expertise is derived from hands on experience creating change in the culture of more than a hundred organizations. Among his consulting clients have been Honda, Corning, Shell Oil Company, Amoco and Texaco,  Air Canada,  Eastman Chemicals, Xerox, Harris Corporation,  Chick-fil-A, Merck and Upjohn Pharmaceuticals, United Technologies, Metropolitan Life and Landmark Communications.

He began his work in youth prisons after recognizing that the learning system in the organization had exactly the opposite of its intended effect – increasing, rather than decreasing, dysfunctional behavior. For four years he worked to redesign the prison system by establishing the first free- economy behind prison walls, where each inmate had to earn points, maintain a checking account, pay rent and pay for everything he desired. It resulted in measurable improvements in behavior. This was his first organizational transformation.

Review for “Facilitation Skills: Making Meetings Efficient” Completed on 08/31/2026 Instructor: Lawrence M. Miller, Institute for Leadership Excellence LLC I recently completed Facilitation Skills: Making Meetings Efficient, and it proved to be a highly practical and insightful course. Lawrence M. Miller presents the material with clarity, confidence, and a deep understanding of what truly drives effective meetings. His teaching style is structured yet approachable, making even the more nuanced facilitation techniques easy to absorb and apply. The course offers a strong balance between concepts and actionable tools. I especially appreciated the emphasis on designing meetings with purpose, keeping discussions focused, and managing group dynamics in a way that encourages participation without losing direction. The frameworks for decision-making and conflict navigation were immediately usable in real-world scenarios—particularly helpful in my role. Overall, this course is an excellent resource for anyone looking to run more efficient, engaging, and productive meetings. Lawrence M. Miller’s expertise shines through, and the lessons are directly applicable to day‑to‑day professional environments. I would highly recommend it to colleagues or teams aiming to strengthen their facilitation capabilities.

It was a good introductory course and highlighted important facilitating tasks that we do not apply correctly and the importance of having a proper control of the forum session, help people to speak up in in good way. Ensure that there is active participation from the group.

Instructor add jokes into the lecture that may or may not be humorous, relevant or even appropriate? it's more of a distraction for the most part and come across as less professional

I recently completed an online training session on facilitation skills that was truly outstanding. Despite the digital format, the speaker’s calm and composed delivery was incredibly effective, keeping the audience centered and engaged throughout. Their ability to project a high level of professionalism through the screen while maintaining a steady, approachable tone served as a perfect real-time demonstration of remote facilitation mastery.

I enjoyed the topic very much. I was able to learn, relearn and unlearn some facilitation practices to do better going forward.

Great course! Lawrence Miller is a good teacher- used great examples and love that you can apply this to work and home life. For example I know to use open ended questions in my role as an RTE/Coach, but forget it also applies to personal relationships and started using this on my college kids so they don't feel like I am integrating them. As an RTE the course emphasized what I am doing well and where I can improve (loved the shut up and listen- staying silent is hard as I am a fast talker and hate silence, so this is one learning I am taking back to practice more. Another opportunity is meetings I am facilitation. I am doing most but there are a couple items I am taking back to start adding to my meetings to make more purposeful and engaging. I also liked the message that being good at receiving feedback makes you better at giving feedback.

I appreciated the emphasis on pre-work (agenda, materials, and role assignment) and follow-up (action items, documentation), which aligns with what we need in our projects and meetings. It's clear, practical and applicable to my current task. Thank you.
