Course Description
Not so long ago I worked for a technical company in the USA. I had loads of fun and I learned a lot about how American companies do business. But it wasn't an easy job.
My predecessor had implemented everything in Salesforce with layer upon layer of customizations. The entire IT system was complicated, disorganized, and extremely unstable. The system would fail almost daily, and years of this had turned the entire organization against the IT department.
I arrived in a hostile environment and had to defend myself daily from contemptuous and condescending stakeholders. It made my work very difficult.
This course is what I wish I had back then to fully prepare me for the job.
In this course, I will share 15 great leadership hacks with you to make you succeed as CTO.
I will start by helping you get into the right mindset for the role. You will learn how to on-board yourself, how to connect with your team, and how to show up for work asking the right questions.
Then I'll teach you how to gain situational awareness. You will learn how to identify your stakeholders and find out what they expect. We will also look at how your team creates value, and what the stakeholders expect from you and your team This will help you become aware of the political environment you've landed in.
Finally, I'll help you sort out your agile process. I will show you an idealized agile development cycle that you can compare with your reality. This will help you find and address weaknesses quickly and get your team to a higher level.
By the end of the course, you'll be well on your way to become an outstanding CTO.

Actually I am so glad that I took this course. I tried taking courses offered by other instructors and I was so tired by instructors reading AI generated content from the slide. Mark's delivery was great, natural and the content was based on his own experience, which was immensely helpful.

Seems to me that the plan put forward by the instructor, the meetings, would have largely been done before accepting the CTO role. Who would take a role like this without understanding the CEO expectations, culture, budgets, current IT status, HR, etc.? Further into the course, we learn some interesting perspectives on process, team, and viability. If considering this course, be aware that it is very much focused on software development (not a bad thing, just FYI).

The course has information about expectation management, stakeholder management and how to work with a software development team. All great thinks to know. What I mainly miss is aid in the main responsibility of setting up the technology roadmap with the various aspects on that. Further than epics or the stakeholder management was not shown. There is still something in between these two topics.

As a Senior Developer with 17+ years in the industry, I have learned a whole new perspective on how complex the CTO role is, and my respect has also increased for the people in these roles. I have even better understood the differences between agile methodologies and people's roles in product development. Short, compact, and professional as usual. Thank you, Sir!

I think the course is a good start and coverage of various aspects of a CTO, however, I think the introduction on the role, expectations and variations of CTOs should be included. What is the main task, vision, how to engage and act, etc. There was also a high focus on Agile, which is okay. At the moment I am not sure how relevant the stakeholder and powerholder identification is, but I will prepare myself for it accordingly. Thanks for the course

The course is well organized and very insightful, and Mark is a good teacher. My only regret is that this course wasn't longer. Mark also touched on a very important topic of outgrowing one's weaknesses. I hope he creates course content around that subject also.

The course is very nice general overview of CTO role, very useful and informative. Some more exact specificity about different agile technologies will be good to have though. If you are not familiar with them, difficult to understand the differences betweed SCRUM, XP, KANBAN. In overall very much reccomended course for one who is planning to take CTO job or has been just apppointed to this position.

I have been a software developer for 20 years and during that time I have held several management and leadership roles. These hacks will give a new technology executive a good template to use to start the right conversations and a framework to help them craft their IT vision. The course is not an in-depth guide but provided me with several useful ideas.

The course addresses in a very interesting way several key topics in the path of a CTO. My only observation is that this course is a reduced version of another course, hosted on the author's website, were 30 hacks are offered instead of these 15 ones. My recommendation is to directly purchase the 30 hacks course instead of this one. A promotion code is offered at the end of the course for the 30 hacks one. Unfortunately the promo code is expired and does not work.

Excellent and to-the-point! Granted, I'm not a CTO (current position is team lead). But that didn't make the course any less useful. It proved very helpful to me when arriving in a corporate environment with no real onboarding procedure. I was happy to have this step-by-step plan and get going *fast*. If you're in any position where you need to delegate to some, and report back to others, I can highly recommended this course!
