Course Description
Hi!
This course is designed for students or anyone else who want to start Java as a programming language. We will consider several topics ranging from installing Java itself to MySQL database operations. The first chapter will be about the basics: loops, decision making, variables and so on. The next chapters will be about exception handling as well as how to deal with input/output operations. Of course, we will consider the object orinted principles: inheritance, polymorphism and encapsulation as well. The last chapter will be about how to connect to a MySQL database and how to make the basic database-related operations: inserting new items, removing items or updating items in the database table.
Hope you will like it!

My name is Balazs Holczer. I am from Budapest, Hungary. I am qualified as a physicist. At the moment I am working as a simulation engineer at a multinational company. I have been interested in algorithms and data structures and its implementations especially in Java since university. Later on I got acquainted with machine learning techniques, artificial intelligence, numerical methods and recipes such as solving differential equations, linear algebra, interpolation and extrapolation. These things may prove to be very very important in several fields: software engineering, research and development or investment banking. I have a special addiction to quantitative models such as the Black-Scholes model, or the Merton-model.
Take a look at my website if you are interested in these topics!

I'm enjoying it so far. But I have pros and cons. Pros. The instructor's teaching style is very good. The lessons are bite sized and get the idea across, quickly, in simple terms. Cons Some lessons seems to be missing. For example:- (a) In the set up videos the instructor mentioned that we had, "installed Maven". But there is NO video showing us how to do that. I had to install Maven myself using an online guide and there were some issues with that. (b) He showed us how to create comments but I'm still unsure whether some of the multiline comments used in the lessons ( for example, the ones discussing, static variables, local variables, etc) were autogenerated or not. If they were autogenerated ...I wish we'd been shown the shortcut keys for that. Otherwise...the course is fantastic and I'm very pleased with it. I give it 5 stars.

sometimes i lacked information where is something coming from - suddenly there was som IO exception, and it wasnt introduced why we should write it, how should I know to write it, what does it even mean. Similar with JDBC, some facts were just stated without introduction (why) or explanation.

This is the best basic Java course anywhere on the planet. The instructor explains complex concepts in simple language that anyone can understand. He manages to cover the same material in 1/10th the time of other instructors. If you are just getting started in Java and find that the other Java courses are too long-winded, this course is for you.

The instructor is very polite while explaining each topic with good examples and making very clear understanding on the basic concepts. After going through this session any layman can understand the basic first steps in Java. Session was very engaging with indepth explanation and direct to the point.

This course is great for beginners java developers it covers Java basics without having too long video tutorials. The only thing I would improve is the last section which is very short and a little bit rushed. Extra exercises for students would be appreciated. Thank you for this course Holczer!

From this course what I have achieved is the basic concepts of JAVA is covered and I have already started implementing the same for Test Automation. There is no improvement required in the course for the instructor because he has explained it in a very simple language with examples.

Your lecture is easy to follow. Thank you so much!!! Your effort and hard work are greatly appreciated. And, thank you very much for making this free. I would have like to rate this to 5 stars but due to some pronunciations of words like variables and query. Sorry, I have to rate it to 4. :) Generally, I am fine with your pronunciations though. :)

Very well explained and the illustrative projects were sufficient to get a base knowledge. You get the perfect grounding on how to use java to interact with databases. I had studied C++ about 15 years ago so this course was easy for me to pick up, I needed it to get comfortable with the syntax (and refresh my memory!). Even for any newcomer to coding, I highly recommend this course.
