Course Description
Do you want to know how to handle time series in Tableau?
Do you want to use Tableaus forecasting feature to get great visualizations?
Or you probably want to know how to add extra forecasting features like ARIMA models to Tableau?
Time based data has its own rules and implications. We will discuss these in Tableau. Quite often time series data is used to look into the future. Forecasting is the name of the game here. Luckily Tableau offers an exponential smoothing forecasting tool, which we will of course explore.
Sometimes you might find that Tableau's internal forecasting tools are too limited. Well, for these instances I will show you how to integrate the R forecast package into Tableau to do ARIMA modeling. This whole process is so well implemented that it can be done without prior R knowledge. In one of the last sections I will show you how it’s done, step by step.
So what are you going to learn in the course?
We start with the general knowledge you need to work with time series data. Especially data roles. We will then discuss moving averages which are widely used in time series analysis. And we will do some time based filtering. We will of course write our own functions, we will create parameters and you will also learn about the time based functions Tableau has to offer. Each of these things will be enforced with exercises.
That is the first section, after that we will be forecasting with Tableau, that means exponential smoothing. I will show you how to read the results you get and how to manually modify the forecast settings.
That is one way of forecasting in Tableau, but there is an advanced alternative. You can use R from within Tableau to perform advanced forecast modeling as we will learn in the last section of the course.
So how do you best prepare for this course?
Well, I built the course for people who already know a bit about Tableau. You should be able to get data into Tableau and to orient yourself in the interface. You should know the basics already. That way we can focus on time series and forecasting and we do not waste precious time on basic things you might already know.
You do not need R skills, although it is an advantage. The methods outlined in the last section are explained in a way so that you can follow along easily.
I hope you will enjoy this course - do not forget to add it to your CV, so that human resources knows that you train yourself on the latest technologies. Valuable skills are definitely a career booster.

R integration with Tableau seemed complicated, specially the "when to do it" part, but this course gets you through basic time series understanding in Tableau to actual integration. It's true examples are not super complex, nevertheless this gives to you a good start in time series, plus you learn some interesting tricks in Tableau. The instructor is very knowledgeable by the way, he sure knows what he talks about.

All the 4 sections are packed with practical knowledge in Time Series and Forecasting which is essential for professionals working in any function particularly Sales, Procurement, Logistics, Transportation, etc., who need to do forecasting and other data-analysis to develop a futuristic vision of their business. The faculty is very knowledgeable and thorough in this subject. His explanations are simple and understandable. Basic knowledge of Tableau and R, is essential to understand this course really well.

Really great course which provides the fundamentals for time series analysis and forecasting as well. The exercises are easily followed (granted you need to have at least some working experience with Tableau). My only complaint that in section 26. the steps are quite hard to follow as the instructions are very fast. Overall, I had fun and it was a good time investment.

I finished the course and it was a great first step towards learning forecasting with R and Tableau. I think its a foundational course, and I was able to generate an interesting chart using my own data. I hope the same lecturer can offer another course that's next level. He was very easy to follow and understand.

This is an excellent course! I have always been somewhat confused when working with dates in Tableau. This course has cleared up the confusion and I feel I have a much better understanding of how dates work in Tableau. The simple, common-sense approach Martin uses to explain how dates work and the tips he shares are amazing and really helpful. Thanks Martin!

After weeks of struggling to figure out how to forecast using Tableau and R, I found this course and it gave me the information and insight I needed. The material was well organized, well presented, and included practical exercises. I would highly recommend this course for anyone who wants to learn how to forecast using Tableau and R.

Instructor non-responsive to a question. At the very least, acknowledge receipt even if you have no answer. I contacted Udemy Customer Support and was told they have no control over whether instructors respond or not. So much for Customer Support! This experience changed a very good experience and left me with a bad taste. So I downgraded to 3-stars.

The Forecasting and Time Series Analysis in Tableau, is a very useful course for anyone interested in forecasting and use R and Tableau. Martin has high energy levels and gives a detailed explanation which is easy to follow. I found leveraging R to build forecast and using Tableau for visualization a very powerful technique.

Course content is very good. But the courses videos are very bad and tend to hide all the detail and are mostly whited out. This make following the instructors points very difficult. All that can be seen on the tableau views are the graph lines, all the trend lines and forecast lines are invisible. The instructor is very knowledgeable and explains the concepts very well.

The instructor explained the topics very well and the extra effort that went into the videos to illustrate the lessons / concepts greatly helped me in understanding the materials. I've taken other Tableau courses before but I have found that this course did the best job at explaining the various 'date' functions used in Tableau - which some may have difficulty grasping - but the instructor went step by step in order to help students build a solid foundation. Other Tableau courses quickly skim through this area and do a poor job at explaining why certain functions perform the way they do - or expect you to just copy and paste the formulas in. In addition, I've found that the pace the instructor taught the class was perfect - detailed, concise, and not rushed. I'm looking forward for more courses from this instructor - hopefully an advanced Tableau course that covers other topics and incorporates many real world business scenarios.
