Course Description

Are you new to R?

Do you want to learn more about statistical programming?

Are you in a quantitative field?

You just started learning R but you struggle with all the free but unorganized material available elsewhere?

Do you want to hack the learning curve and stay ahead of your competition?

If your answer is YES to some of those points - read on!

This Tutorial is the first step - your Level 1 - to R mastery.

All the important aspects of statistical programming ranging from handling different data types to loops and functions, even graphs are covered.

While planing this course I used the Pareto 80/20 principle. I filtered for the most useful items in the R language which will give you a quick and efficient learning experience.

Learning R will help you conduct your projects. On the long run it is an invaluable skill which will enhance your career.

Your journey will start with the theoretical background of object and data types. You will then learn how to handle the most common types of objects in R. Much emphasis is put on loops in R since this is a crucial part of statistical programming. It is also shown how the apply family of functions can be used for looping.

In the graphics section you will learn how to create and tailor your graphs. As an example we will create boxplots, histograms and piecharts. Since the graphs interface is quite the same for all types of graphs, this will give you a solid foundation.

With the R Commander you will also learn about an alternative to RStudio. Especially for classic hypothesis tests the R Commander GUI can save you some time.

According to the teaching principles of R Tutorials every section is enforced with exercises for a better learning experience.

You can download the code pdf of every section to try the presented code on your own.

This tutorial is your first step to benefit from this open source software.

What R you waiting for?

This course wasn't quite what I had expected as far as the statistical pieces, but it was great as an introduction course into using R and RStudio. The practices that were available were very helpful, as were the provided PDF documents to use as references.

Very well structured, very much informative. Liked the way that the lecture were summarized at the end. The best part was the last section R Commander, I have taken up multiple R courses but, never came across this section which I liked the most, as it is very helpful and comes handy. Great work.

I had a little experience in other languages (LaTeX and Python) but was just told by my employer that I needed to learn R. In less than a week this took me to being able to manage most day to day tasks in R.

I liked the course because it starts from the basis and the subjects are explained in a good way. There are still concepts that I need to reinforce and the instructor encourages us to practice a lot in order to learn

By Vivek Mamillapalli on 5/1/2019

I wanted to learn concepts of R as I am moving into a new project in my company which will deal with ML and Tableau. So I need to get a basic understanding and also a route map to get there which is greatly presented in this course - exactly which I was looking for. I also understood that statistical concepts should be learned and please suggest me a good course in that if possible.

By David Kernan on 2/1/2019

Good so far. A few more examples showing how R is unique to other statistical software could be interesting. Overall useful and a good start for a beginner I was able to use material from the course on my own data after one or two sections.

By Tanay Banerjee on 1/15/2019

Just awesome. I don't know ABC of programming language. I am learning R quickly as the explanations/pronunciations are so clear...Thanks Martin I am learning it clearly...seeing a light of hope

By Koji Mizumura on 1/4/2018

I could briefly learn basic commands, but the instructor's accent was a bit strong (no difficulty to listen though). The example commands are easy to learn, but i thought it would be better that instructor assigns more specific practice problems (He ofcourse introduced another page).

By Kevin Flanagan on 8/25/2017

Excellent coverage and explanations - spell check would be helpful as package names are misspelled - also I have 3.4.1 installed and several packages were not available in my newer R version

By Md Mahmudur Rahman on 5/27/2015

It is a good beginner's course. Anyone who wants to learn R, it is a good start. As the same time, it's helpful to have some knowledge about sum core terms i.e. prime number, matrix to understand the function.
