Course Description
- Taught by a team of electrical engineers from Stanford and IIT Madras.
An Internet-Of-Things course for everyone - accessible yet serious, to take you from absolute beginner to a solid intermediate level - built around Home Automation using Raspberry Pi.
This is a course is for everyone. You need not be an electrical engineer, or an engineer at all. We explain all engineering or automation concepts from absolute scratch.
This is an Internet-of-Things course, not merely a Raspberry Pi course. This is important because we think too many courses end up becoming like manuals for the Raspberry Pi, or the Arduino, or some specific hardware device. This course is careful to generalize
The course takes you to a solid intermediate level. The objective is to get you to a point where if you imagine a really cool IoT application, you will be able to independently figure out how to implement it.
We focus on Home Automation using Raspberry Pi for our use-cases. This is so that you can immediately put it to use around the home (turn that music down without getting off the couch!)
As with all our courses, this one too is quirky. The examples are irreverent. Lots of little touches: repetition, zooming out so we remember the big picture, active learning with plenty of quizzes. There’s also a peppy soundtrack, and art - all shown by studies to improve cognition and recall.
What's Covered:
Internet of Things : Sensors, Actuators, Microcontrollers, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Physical Computing, Smart homes
Raspberry Pi 2 Model B Components, System on a Chip (SOC) , Input Output Interfaces, SD Card / Secondary Storage, Choice of Operating Systems, RISC/CISC Architectures, x86 vs ARM, Raspbian OS installation, Raspbian tour, Linux Shell commands overview, Installing softwares, Connecting to the Internet
Physical Computing: Sensors (Photoresistors, Ultrasonic sensors, motion sensors, temperature and humidity sensors), Relays, LEDs, Push buttons, Basics of circuit design, Ohm's law, RC circuit, GPIO pins, Serial and Parallel interfaces, UART, SPI, I2C, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), Python (RPi DOT GPIO), WiringPi, Node js (RPi-GPIO)
Home Automation projects: Measuring Distance, Measuring Light Intensity, Controlling switches with sensors, Controlling switches over local and external networks

I bought this course a few years ago, and just found time to run through it. Could use some updates, but it does give a quick and useful introduction to using python and wiringPi (wiringPi is installed with NOOBs at present, so only needs to be in a Geany C program to be used.) Thanks!

I was looking for a course on IoT to understand the whole concept & practicalities. I would say that course gave me a fair enough idea to me. Also increased my confidence to further pursue my this newly developed interest in IoT.

The course is very uneven in presentation. Portions are very slow and almost too detailed and followed by portions which move too quickly and contain language and concepts that can confuse a beginner. Also, the accents of the instructors are sometimes difficult to understand.

The author needs to check the programs presented. I noted several errors the keep the programs from working. i.e. lightson.py the return needs to be out dented for the program to work otherwise you only get a return value of 0. During the wiring phase of later projects the wiring was so messy it was hard to tell what was going where.

The explanation is very easy to understand and is done in a methodical way. Helped me to understand IoT better and program using the Raspbian OS. But, there could be more lectures on how to set up the raspberry Pi initially with a laptop over a network.

The course is ideal for people that has no background on R-Pi, IoT and microcontrollers vs microprocessors. Everything is explained carefully, sometimes a bit slow for people like me that never used a Raspberry unit but knows what it is. Also English is not my first language, that caused some trouble with the teacher's pronunciation but nothing major. Only with a few words that needed to be played again to understand. So far, it's been really helpful, I learned some new concepts to address some technologies properly and since I'm new to the practical part, I appreciate the step-by-step guide for the Pi projects. Congrats! You managed to offer a really good intro guide.

I was happy with this course. I have several courses on the subject I am learning for a project of mine, I have been close to where I want to be for a week or two now and this course filled in the blanks and I now have a working prototype. I would recommend anyone that buy this course to also go through the course material for the lessons. Some of the lessons are a little vague but are backed up with a pdf that consolidated the video for me.

clear, focused on strict information, The approach is no nonsense but also put in easy to learn terms. My suggestion to public.... this course is a wealth of knowledge if you....pay strict attention. It progresses professionally.

This course is an very good course on the getting started with the RaspberryPi. It does a very good job of bringing a new person from getting there RaspberryPi out of the box and getting it set up. But the basic elements it shows as the projects for IOT is not what I think most people are looking for, they are looking for things that go much deeper and complex. But as a early start for someone just getting started this course is fantastic. The person who presents or narrates the course has a heavy accent in her speech and makes the delivery of some very well planned graphics and slides a little hard to follow, but it is tolerable. That being said I have recommended this course to friends just getting started with RaspberryPi's.

Great teaching technique used in delivering the content, easily understood at all levels, cannot go wrong; trainer has good command over the subject and equally good at imparting the knowledge; anyone wishing to learn Raspberry, start here.
