James Taylor is the Ralph S. O'Connor Associate Professor of logy and Associate Professor of Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University. Until 2014 he was an Associate Professor in the departments of logy and Mathematics & Computer Science at Emory University. He is one of the original developers of the Galaxy platform for data analysis, and his group continues to work on extending the Galaxy platform. His group also works on understanding genomic and epigenomic regulation of gene transcription through integrated analysis of functional genomic data. James received a PhD in Computer Science from Penn State University, where he was involved in several vertebrate genome projects and the ENCODE project.

Please, update the course in terms of Galaxy tools used. Apart from that, it was a very useful course for me and very professionally led.

this course is so bad that if you are paying for it its practically a scam. honestly, i have no idea how this course has such a high rating, since you on every other site its rating is around 1-2 start with horrible reviews..i think you should only take this course if you are after the certificate of the specialization, otherwise, there are far (far far!) better information out there on how and why to use galaxy.i hope someone at coursera/hopkins will read this - i highly recommend you to withdrawal this course and fix it.. because its making you look very bad.

It was very hard to follow specially because most of the videos use an older version of the program. Honestly, I did not learn much here.

The lecturer only shortly explains what it is we are trying to analyze. He quickly skips over the biology and tells where to click in Galaxy. Additionally I can understand that frequently you would like to stick to the default values. Every now and then the lecturer changes some parameters without explaining well enough how and why to do so.The assignment at the end is tough. It is hard to accomplish with only the course material as background. One needs to look for other Galaxy tutorials to successfully complete the assignment.

The course does not teach enough to be able to complete the final assignment. There should be more videos to explain how to use the tools and with which parameters in the final assignment, or there should be a simpler final assignment.

Dumbest course I ever seen......confused and very low level. The final exam is peer reviewed by two classmates and I didn't pass because one classmate is unable to open the vcf file

It is very nice Course to learn the hands-on dry lab work for Biologists. Its Project assignments in last with review other classmates work made it more valuable. Galaxy local Installation is also very good concept to teach properly.

This course is frustrating, there is not
near enough information in the lectures to do the final assignment. There’s
also NO support from staff, just a former student volunteering. A total disappointment.

It is fast-paced. The teacher is good. The final exam is out of proportion to what was taught in class. There is minimal guidance on the task, which is frustrating for those trying to take the course seriously and thoroughly.

Galaxy was explained very well in the course with examples and tutorials. The major challenge is to get a response from the professor on technical questions. Also, the final exam requires you to do a lot of search, find and define. A very good course for Galaxy; however be ready
