This is a Tableau course, not a data science course, despite the name. Kirill Eremenko walks through Tableau Desktop from a first bar chart to joins, blending, table calculations, clusters and storylines, in 77 lectures and about 8.6 hours. Every section uses a fresh dataset, there are seven quizzes, and the modules are independent, so people can jump around. The only stated requirement is basic computer skills. It sits in our Data Science list because Tableau is where a lot of analysts start, but there's no code, no statistics and no modeling here. It suits analysts and business users who need to present data, more than anyone aiming at Python.

Reviewers like that it starts with doing rather than theory, that the lessons come in short chunks, and that the joins section is explained clearly. The rating breakdown backs that up: about 64,000 five-star reviews against just over 500 one-star. The complaints are consistent though. Several three-star reviewers say Kirill moves fast and clicks around the screen without narrating, so they had to pause and rewind constantly. Others were annoyed that a dataset has to be downloaded from Kaggle or another site rather than from Udemy, and one found the data extract lesson assumes the paid version of Tableau.

Last updated in February 2025, so the screens are close to current Tableau, though one reviewer still calls parts outdated. If the goal is a usable dashboard skill in a weekend or two, it's a solid pick. True beginners should expect to work at half speed.

I am learning a lot in this course, the instructor does go a little fast but that's what pause, rewind, and speed change are for. Not too jargon heavy and where there is some jargon, there is a thorough explanation. He did a great job explaining the joins and how they work. The only complaint I would have is that he did a tutorial on data extraction and upon looking in the q&a I discovered that was only available in the paid version, that was not made clear in the tutorial. Other than that, everything has been straightforward. The material is a few years old but it doesn't seem like much has changed beyond local saving capabilities and some ux design, so this course is efficient for learning the platform.

Course if very outdated compared to current information for free trial and there was no explanation on the various setup of what to look at on the dashboard, where to put the files, in tableau or documents...and too fast. He moved around on the screen very fast at time and really didn't verbally guide as he opened and moved around, but it was still informative. I would suggest, slow the speed down.
