This course is designed to cut academic theory to just the key concepts and focus on basics tasks in Git in order to be productive quickly. Students can expect to learn the all the main features of Git in just two hours.

Course Outline

Course Introduction provides a welcome to this course with a few suggestions on how to get the most out of it. After that, we cover the minimum theory before getting our hands dirty with Git in the Core Concepts section.

Quick Installation provides an overview on the installation process for all tools needed for this course. A more detailed set of instructions are available in the Bonus section.

In The Basics, we walk through all the commands needed to start a new project managed by Git (or enable Git for an existing project) all the way through making commits, including common file operations like moving and deleting files. We also cover how to exclude the wrong files from accidentally being committed and how to review your repository's history.

We then go a bit deeper in the Advanced section when we cover comparing changes, branching and merging (including merge conflict resolution), tagging milestones, saving temporary work, and even a bit of time travel.

Finally, Going Remote covers publishing the locally created repository (previous sections) on GitHub and BitBucket. We cover the main concepts related to working with any remote Git repositories and compare the differences between the two most popular Git hosting services.

After the main part of the course, this course offers several bonus sections that explore some topics in more detail for those that like more information.

Presentations provide audio/video training of conceptual ideas. Since few like slide-ware presentations, slide-presentations are kept to a minimum.

I am a long-time git user, but our HR assigned me this course. I hoped it would help me to structure my experience better. Besides, it is Windows-based, and my experience is mostly with Linux. I hoped it would give some insights on using git under Windows and some help with choosing the related software (an editor, diff- and merge tools, etc.). After finishing the course I am happy to report that all the above requirements have been met. The course proved to be a brief and useful overview of the command line git on Windows, Bitbucket, and GitHub.

The cases and the content are awesome. There are some discrepancies with the last version of Git, "master" is not used at least in the version that I have downloaded. Now "main" is used. It is needed to use SSH to setup Bitbucket and Github but the general concepts are awesome

Explanations are good but I guess if the name of the Course is "Git for Geeks" things like installation of Git/ Text editors etc. should not be in focus . More complex scenarios like resolving conflict ,rebase etc should be given more time . comparison of Github and bitbucket is not of much use . Those things should be in some sort of beginners course not in advanced .

bitbucket pages layout and interface for creating the repo is different from the screens you show. they offer to create a default gitignore and a readme - what created a conflict between local and remote here. i had to learn how to remove origin and come back to create a new empty repo to get the push done.

It could be better paced to follow along and understand concepts. More explanation and links to resources in the earlier sections would be helpful. Instructor is very knowledgeable.

Also one small suggestion to add more details on GIT where ever possible like GIT push , fetch and push
