Course Description
Every developer must learn version control. If you wish to get a job in the games industry or software industry, you WILL learn these skills. If you already know them, you're MUCH more likely to get hired.
Learn the fundamental operations in the Git version control system. We will start out with the most basic operations, running Git commands from the command line. We begin version controlling basic text files to see how Git works, before moving on to real projects. We create C++ projects in Visual Studio and VS Code, before moving on to Unreal Engine C++ projects using both Unreal Engine 4 and 5!
Learn how to stage changes, commit, branch, merge, and resolve merge conflicts, rebase, cherry pick, stash, and more. Create online remote repositories hosted by GitHub, and fetch and pull from the remotes to your local machine, push from your local repository to the remote, and clone and fork operations. Learn how to submit and approve pull requests, allowing you to contribute to other developer's online projects version controlled by Git.
Learn how to set up Unreal Engine 4 and 5 projects with version control, allowing you to make experimental branches, commit your changes and revert, reset and rebase, and push all your changes to an online repository. Version control large files in your Unreal Engine projects by initializing Git LFS (Large File Storage) and learn how to create proper .gitignore and .gitattributes files so your projects are version controlled smoothly.

Excellent content and great tutor. I knew Git a bit and still learned a lot. However, I came specifically to learn how to apply Git for Unreal Engine projects. The last section "Version Controlling Real Projects" didn't work. I had to watch it, hence only 4 stars. The course is too old for Unreal Engine 4 because and require VS2019 for C++ which I didn't want to install over VS2026. More importantly, lectures about Unreal Engine 5 also didn't work in UE5.7 with VS2026--the example, even very simple, couldn't ne compiled with a number of errors and lots of number of warnings. Even though we learn VS with Git in previous lectures, still I was waiting for the last ones, unfortunately couldn't follow them. Anyway thanks for the great content

I started using git in 2008, but I never really understood it until a few years ago when I had to really start using it. I got this course as a review and for the Unreal Engine portion with Git LFS. Overall, it was good for those with little to no knowledge of git.

I've always rated your courses with 5 stars, Stephen, as I have found all of them to be exceptional. However, I must express my dissatisfaction with this particular course. Despite having given 5 stars to all of your previous courses, I feel this one falls short. It appears outdated and relies on GitHub, which requires paid features that are often inaccessible for indie developers like myself. The choice of application in this course was quite disappointing.

This instructor makes great courses so far I've had a little difficulty keeping up but it's only been because of technical issues that I was having on my end. Once I finally got that figured out, the course has progressed smoothly. i would highly recommend this course and any of his other courses to anyone interested in learning what he offers.

Best git course ever, I was struggling to know what is Git and github seeing so many people around me use it, I didnt know anything about the basic terms push, pull, repository, what is a commit. But Stphen explained everything from the very basic level and now I feel perfect in my knowledge of using Git and Version Controlling my projects! 10/10 would recommend this course to anyone!

Git is every bit as un-sexy as it is essential. I should have taken this course *before* I took my latest job. Other engineers on the project had to take a significant amount of time teaching me the essentials. This course not only confirmed the essentials that I had already learned, it explained so much more. This is a great course for all developers, junior to senior.

I loved the course, Stephen is an excellent teacher as always. Just a quick comment, the course is a tad bit out of date on the use of git checkout, instead of git checkout, git switch should be used instead. Being 6 hours the course seems deceptively simple, but it's not, there's a lot to test out, try out, and experiment with before you reach the final lecture. I especially appreciate the depth that it goes into using Git with UE5.

The Ultimate Git Course is the best Git course on the internet. It's a fully comprehensive course that cover absolutely everything you need to know about Git Version Control. I feel like a Git Version Control Professional now. This course I will use like a Git bible as its covers everything about Git. Thanks for creating a super amazing course Stephen and I love your teaching style as you explain everything in so much detail and you are easy to follow. Keep making these amazing courses as you are helping so many developers :-)

Very informative, lots of great information. About to start Stephen's C++ Multiplayer course and I wanted to version control it. I feel very confident in being able to use git and github effectively now. The whole course really came together at the end. Glad we spent time working in the git bash terminal itself, it made the Visual Studio side of things so easy to understand. Take notes of all the commands!

Extremely useful course for those who like me understands intuitively what Git does but has no idea of how Git does what it does. I got answers to basically all questions I had and now I feel much more confident in this topic. I really liked explanations with pictures and schemes as they help visualize what's going on underneath all those commands. I definitely recommend this course if you know that you need Git but not sure how to approach it. Thank you, Stephen, for this amazing course!
