Course Description

"This course is absolutely fantastic for learning how to deal with nightmare bosses! I CANNOT recommend it enough. It is TRULY worth its weight in GOLD!" Jules Labrecque, course student

The bully boss...

The ineffective, disorganised line manager...

The over-promoted, confrontational bad manager...

The unpredictable, Machiavellian line manager...

On this conflict management course, you'll learn how to deal with these four types of nightmare boss - the Hippo Boss, the Ostrich Boss, Snake Boss and Gorilla Boss. All these bad managers have their own distinct behaviours and each requires you to take different communication and influencing approaches.

You'll also learn:

  1. Techniques, communication and influencing skills for managing up

  2. How to get into the right mindset to deal with your bad line manager

  3. How to develop new perspectives when dealing with a poor manager

  4. Which ‘roles’ many people fall into when dealing with their bad manager

  5. The 3 truths about managing up

  6. Some of the ‘games’ each bad manager likes to play and how to counter them

  7. What mindset you need to get into to take back control of your relationship with your line manager

  8. How to deal with and handle a toxic manager who argues and is controlling

Bad managers are everywhere and they affect many of us!

According to psychologist Michelle McQuaid in 2017:

  • 65% of people would prefer to fire their boss than get a pay rise.

  • 75% of people say that having a bad boss makes their health suffer.

  • 58% say they’d be more successful in their career if they got along better with their difficult boss

And a Gallup study in 2015 that found that:

  • 50% of the 7,200 adults surveyed left a job “to get away from their manager”.

  • Close to 70% of those polled said they would be happier at work if they got along better with their boss, with the breakdown equal amongst men and women, but younger workers in their 20s and 30s skewed even higher (80%).

So, you’re not alone, and for our personal well being and health — as well as our productivity — it’s important for us to try and improve the relationship with our line manager, our bas boss.

This communication, conflict management and influencing course will help you claw back some control and regain your self confidence, reduce stress, reduce anxiety and regain your sanity.

Having a bad boss or difficult manager can make your life a living hell. A nightmare, difficult boss can create stress and anxiety throughout your week, and this will affect your personal life too. If you want to learn how to better manage your boss, to become less emotionally attached and stop him from draining your energy, then you need to learn some key skills and techniques that will put you back in control. And critically, you need to get into the right mindset to deal with whatever your nightmare, bad boss throws at you. This online course will teach you how to deal with aggressive behaviours, underhand tactics, and take back control.

After this online course you will be less stressed, less anxious, more focused and more prepared for whatever your bad boss may bring. And by changing the way you approach your line manager, by changing your mindset, you can take back control of your career.

Marie is one of the UK's most experienced coaches. In fact, she cofounded Lequin Executive Coaching back in 2003 when there were just a handful of coaching companies. And before she became a coach she worked at Deloitte Consulting, specialising in change management and leadership development. So, she's been working in the field of personal and professional leadership development since 2003. In this time she's trained and coached senior leaders from around the world and in a diverse range of international organisations, including: senior leaders at BBC Property, RWE, Disney, the board of Dennis Publishing, board members of GE Money, the board at Future Publishing, and board members of SEGRO (FTSE 100 property company). I’ve also worked at all levels at Npower, RWE IT, RWE Innogy, Thames Water, Welsh Water, BNP Paribas CIB, Tower Watson, Avon Fire Brigade, Sainsburys, Pepsico, GE, Vodafone, HSBC PB, and Lloyds TSB.

So, she's come across plenty of bad managers, poor line managers, both in her own career before setting up Lequin and when working with clients as a one-to-one executive coach and team coach, as well as a trainer. She's seen what havoc poor line managers can do, and she knows how to deal with them. She brings a wealth of experience to this topic and she has excellent techniques to share so you can improve your relationship management, your political IQ, your conflict management, stress management, leadership skills, and your emotional intelligence.

By Miranda Messler on 10/26/2024

Wow! This is one of the best Udemy courses I've come across. Very interesting content. Useful tips and practical techniques, which I'm putting into practice with my manager, who is 'difficult' to say the least!!! The PAC, Karpman Triangle and the stuff about the Snake boss (my manager!) is great. Thanks

By Maribel Ceballos on 5/20/2024

Excellent course, instructor is very knowledgeable, explained real scenarios and provided great supporting materials.

I have dealt with the Snake boss and now I'm dealing with a Gorilla boss. I'm just bewildered why am being "targeted" in their games since they aren't confident in themselves. I enjoyed the videos and it gave me a lot of perspectives. However, I have to take care of myself and my stress level. No need to go thru the bullshit. Thank you.
