Course Description

99% of the time, CAN bus will be implemented on embedded systems. That's the plain reality. So if you get a job where you are working with CAN bus, you will mostly likely be programming and troubleshooting this protocol on embedded systems. This course is designed to give you your first taste as to what it is like to program an embedded system in order to create your first very own CAN bus network.

This course uses the Arduino because by far it is the most popular system of it's kind out there. It's very inexpensive, widely available, easy to use and there is tons of support on the web for it. It's why I chose it for this course.

At the end of this course, I hope that you will purchase your own components and build, run and test just as is shown in the lectures. In that way, if you go to a job interview and they ask you go about building a CAN bus network, you will be able to say ... "Sure, let me tell you how I did it!"

I have been working in the fields of Software Development, Software Systems Integration and Process Automation since 1996. In 2003, I stepped out on my own and started working for myself providing software development and systems integration services to small and medium businesses.

Teaching has always been a passion for me. I have taught at the tertiary level for many years on the subjects of programming, control systems as well as systems integration. In the last few years I found myself incorporating more and more videos into the curriculum with amazing results.

When I heard of uDemy I just could not help but sign up. With teaching in a classroom, you can reach only so many students, but with uDemy you can reach the world! I plan to publish and promote as many courses as I possibly can on the uDemy platform.

Yes this was a good match. even though I am familiar with arduino this course allows me to quickly implement my own canbus implementation. I will be reading canbus information from a Renogy 3500 watt solar inverter. the goal is to then use my knowledge from your arduino modbus course to create a modbus slave that will tie into my RV PLC controlled load shed system(Siemens logo 8 based).

Great quick/simple project to get up and running with CAN BUS. Not super in depth explanation of CAN, but the course never claims to do so. I was able to get my simple CAN BUS project up and running within a few hours and I'm looking forward to adding to it and tweaking some more to suit my purposes. Thanks Emile!

This Course is a need for students how wanted to understand CAN-Bus The instructions are simple and very clear. Step by Step you go to the goal of this course. By the end of the course you have enough material to experiment with, and build your one CAN-Bus. Good Job thank you very much. Martin C.S. Brandsma, The Netherlands

I started this course after trying your intro to CAN course and I have ordered the CAN Bus shield to use with existing hardware for hobby purposes. I look forward to performing the experiments in the course as well as some my own such as recording OBDII data from one of my automobiles.

You spent 20 minutes explaining how to wire led and pot to Arduino and no time explaining how a CAN bus actually works. The code itself included only a mere basics. There are many web tutorials which does the same job in 5 minutes. I expected much more in 1.5 hours...

Good basic overview. I would be interested in a more detailed course on the CAN network itself discussing arbitration. How do I guarantee my message was received in a timely mannor etc.. and how to code the arduino for these situations.

Bardzo dobry praktyczny kurs dla tych, którzy dopiero rozpoczynają przygodę z magistralą CAN. Jednakże aby w pełni zrozumieć zawarte w nim informacje potrzebna jest podbudowa teoretyczna. I, oczywiście, trzeba samodzielnie zbudować proponowany przez prowadzącego kurs układ i go przetestować. Wtedy na pewno cały materiał okaże się zrozumiały. A poza tym będzie to także inspiracja do prowadzenia dalszych eksperymentów, ale już we własnym zakresie.

Short, but straight to the point course. I feel like I've learnt something, but at the same time some new questions came along unanswered. Code should be elaborated more in details, points like low/high bytes are not explained at all. Could be an interesting point to show what happens on serial port. Imho, course price should be half of what it is. Accent is good, easy to listen to.

This course provided me the basics on getting started to configure a CAN Bus on an Arduino. However, I do feel the code explanation for CAN Bus Node 1 and Node 2 could have been taken at a slower pace, which happens to be the most important section on this course. Apart from that, the course is top class!

By David Boland on 3/18/2019

Easy enough (accent) to understand that I could set to 1.25x speed. Watched other courses by same instructor nicely presented and timed. Details of programming is a bit small on mobile but I watched them first when I had time and will go back and rewatch on big monitor when I’m ready with the Arduino.
