Course Description

If you design and implement projects in the area of Process Automation or SCADA, you will know from your experience that "one size does not fit all" when it comes to data acquisition and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs). There is always some type of customization to be done. Always some feature that the standard HMI software does not offer.

And sometimes, using a very expensive HMI with all sorts of bells and whistles for a small project can just be overkill. There are times when you just need a very simple application that acquires a few data points from a Modbus network and displays them on a computer screen.

These are the reasons for this course!

I teach you how to use Microsoft Excel to create your own Modbus Master application and Human Machine Interface.

If you apply yourself in this course and execute all that I ask you to do, then at the end, you would be essentially be creating an application with all of the superb data analysis capabilities of Microsoft Excel and applying it to Modbus data!

This is the start of your journey into a whole new area of Process Automation / SCADA and one that is increasingly in very high demand!

Looking forward to seeing you on the inside!

Emile Ackbarali

I have been working in the fields of Software Development, Software Systems Integration and Process Automation since 1996. In 2003, I stepped out on my own and started working for myself providing software development and systems integration services to small and medium businesses.

Teaching has always been a passion for me. I have taught at the tertiary level for many years on the subjects of programming, control systems as well as systems integration. In the last few years I found myself incorporating more and more videos into the curriculum with amazing results.

When I heard of uDemy I just could not help but sign up. With teaching in a classroom, you can reach only so many students, but with uDemy you can reach the world! I plan to publish and promote as many courses as I possibly can on the uDemy platform.

Great course, the content is wonderful and well explain. I really enjoy it and I actually after the course I was able to modify the code to write to any Holding Register and Coil address! This Excel Program is a powerful tool for Modbus Testing and Troubleshooting. Two thumbs up!

I am yet to find another instructor with a better delivery than Emile. His approach to teaching and his explanations are so clear that one does not have to struggle to understand the basics of his courses. No wonder I keep enrolling for the courses. This is my 5th and am still going.

Straight to the point, clear and complete. I have now all the tools I need to design an HMI and a datalogging systeme via Excel. I've been loosing lot of time searching those info on the web. I highly recommend this course.

Was good on the Excel tools and configuration. Would have benefited from a bit more how to set things up on the PLC side (understanding that there are many different types, but even just demonstrate one - how to setup registers, Modbus comms, etc).

Course introduced a few things which speeded up the development of excel based monitoring and control of Modbus devices. as a negative, the use of licensed libraries and software was not mentioned until the enrolment.

I really learnt a lot on this course and will continue to practice the course content to master the it. I will continue to purchase more short courses to upgrade my skills

I'm an electrical engineer with no experience in networking, SCADA or MODBUS. I've done a little VBA in the past. I needed a simple, customizable SCADA system for a combined cyber-power system simulation project. This was exactly what I needed and very easy to follow. Thanks for the great content!

By Richard Kowalsky on 8/20/2018

The course was an excellent demonstration of how to use Excel for communicating via Modbus with target devices. The presentation and explanations were very clear and easy to follow. Money well spent! Thanks Emile, keep up the good work!

Helped me understand the VBA side to get MBAXP Modbus ActiveX Control running the way I wanted. My goal was to get a HMI put together for trouble shooting end devices. He showed me everything I needed to accomplish the task.

By John Stilwell on 12/8/2017

As usual, Emile is right on. Comprehensive friendly style. Repetition (but not overly so) helps to reinforce concepts. The only minor thing is that IMHO it is stretching it a bit to consider Excel a full fledged HMI without adding other widgets such as meters, sliders, etc. Great course though.
