Our take
Based on the ratings of 723 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in October 2022. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a short crash course, not a full web developer program. The syllabus shows three sections: nine lectures on HTML, fifteen on CSS and seven on JavaScript, about two hours in total. It comes from Online Training Plus, with John Bura and Mammoth Interactive listed as co-instructors, and students type along in a free online editor called JSBin. It was last updated in October 2022. No prior coding is needed.
Reviewers mostly like how easy it is to follow. Two say they went from knowing little or nothing to writing simple pages, and one liked seeing the result in the same window as the code. The teaching style gets credit even from a critic. The complaints are consistent too. One reviewer calls it roughly half of each of the instructor's separate one-hour courses, and says it only scratches the surface. Another found the lessons felt like unconnected tasks with little on why or when to use them. One said the pace was too quick for typing along, and two noticed repeated videos.
About 17,000 students have taken it, and the rating sits at 4.0 from 723 reviews, with most at four or five stars. The low scores split between people who found it too thin and a few who found it too fast or assuming prior knowledge. Treat it as a sampler to see whether coding appeals to you, then move on to a longer, project-based course. If you already know the basics, skip it.
Pros
- Short enough to finish in one sitting, about two hours across 31 lectures
- Starts from zero; reviewers with no coding background say they could build simple pages afterward
- Code runs in a free online editor, so there is nothing to install
- Explanations happen as the action is done, with the result visible in the same space
Cons
- Only scratches the surface; one reviewer says it is about half of the author's separate one-hour courses
- No quizzes or coding exercises, and lessons can feel like unconnected tasks
- Pace was too quick for at least one beginner, and a couple of videos repeat in the CSS section
Exactly what I wanted! Just enough BASIC information without being technically overwhelming and intimidating.
Aimed at first-timers. Reviewers with some background found it basic, while one beginner said the pace was too quick.

Everything was good until the variable section. I get the concept but I don't think it was shown in a way it would be used on a site. Didn't understand where I would be able to use it. Since I've taken the W3C course on html and css this helped to reinforce what I have already learned.

The course was very educational and easy to follow, however one of the videos repeated within the CCS Crash Course section. Overall I would recommend this course to any beginners new to HTML,CSS and Javascript.

This course is just a combination of aproximately half of each of the authors 1 hour courses in CSS, HTML and Javascript. In that sense, it is far from "complete", and only scratches the surface of each topic. As the authors teaching style is good, I would instead suggest buying each of his 1 hour courses to get a more complete package .

Excellent course as key content is explained well and is easy to understand in a nutshell. After completing the course I feel confident in developing my own webpages with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Thank you.

It was okay as i didn't get the exact results in chapter 21 as shown in the video... and of course was not even a single example how to execute with all the options for a real project. But the tutorials was well explained.

The videos went WAY too fast to follow and type. After that, it was impossible to stay caught up without pausing. Also, it is required to pause because there are no real segways into the next video. Also, when going from video to video, your JSbin text box would be full, but you would not tell us what to type (had to pause and type, hit play, pause). Too fast for a beginner. I feel its an intermediate course, not a beginning course. I was trying to learn the languages, it did give good examples.

I think this course is good for someone who knows a little bit HTML and CSS. For beginners, there are still many basic things not covered. However, you can still get some ideas withthin this one hour lesson.

This course is especially for those who don't know anything about coding. In simple words, this course is especially for beginners but anyways I like this course, the method of teaching, examples with live executing, etc. I love each and everything in this course.

This course gives a quick crash course on some hand-picked topics of HTML,CSS and JS. It doesn't go through the whole thing that there is to learn really, but what is taught is taught well. Thank you very much!
