The Complete Elixir and Phoenix Bootcamp (Udemy.com)

Had to do some environment setup in Docker to use this older version of Phoenix to follow along. Might be worth adding some documentation to the course for people who don't know how to do this.

Stephen has taught me a few topics now. Before his lessons, attempting to read the docs and applying them to my vision was difficult. After his lessons I am able to approach the official docs with context and I have been able to solve my problems. I have been banging my head against learning erlang/elixir/phoenix for a few days before discovering that once again Stephen has a course on the topic. I've just started and my life is already better. Thanks again Mr. Stephen, if you ever are ever skiing in Aspen please reach out. Would love to show you the mountain as well as you have shown me so many things.

Its pretty old so some things differ from the current release of elixir but I'm enjoying it and with a little troubleshooting here and there I'm able to follow along fine. It'd be cool if he started it with directions on installing asdf because I can't figure it out on ubuntu and that'd help me switch to the version he's using lol.

I'm doing something different for this course regarding how I consume it. I'm listening to the content and following the video and coding along, but I am also pasting the transcript into Claude and generating my own notes. I am also pasting in screenshots of the video along the way. And I'm revising that before I resume the course each time, and I find that it's easier to keep up. Plus, I can ask Claude some questions on the content and have it generate a response, which I then append to my notes.

Personally like Stephen's courses and his teaching style a lot. This is a really good course to sink your teeth into Elixir and functional programming in general. PROS - Lots of code and good explanation. - Starts from the basics and gradually ramps up. CONS - Uses Phoenix 1.2 that is outdated. The added module on the 1.3 update is helpful and a few students have linked their repos while using Phoenix 1.3 so it's not too difficult if you have some programming experience. - The entire module with Sockets felt a bit rushed. Might have been better to build a smaller project with more in-depth Elixir concepts (guard clauses, testing etc.)

This is a well planned and comprehensive course that covers both functional language theory and its modern applications. In particular, the Phoenix web development lectures were a great bonus addition! Thank you Stephen!

Great instructor! This is a great course. Only problem is that it hasn't been updated to reflect the latest versions. There were two instances where I got stuck and ultimately found the fix on the web, where other students posted the same problem and where the fix was a correction to the code in the course. The first was with an OAuth query and the second was in the token setting area. While the course may be becoming a little dated in some regards, this is an extraordinarily broad and understandable course.

This course had a very comprehensive treatment of the subject matter from someone who’s obviously a skilled and experienced educator. It’s accessible for newcomers but structured so that more experienced developers can go through the material at a faster pace.

Another awesome course from you Stephen . You have got me hooked on this fantastic language and framework. I am really looking forward to the rest of the content that has been promised, as it feels like its very much been left on a cliff hanger. Great work!

This course explains very well how phoenix works. As the author mentioned he explains what happens behind the scene. to make things clearer. All I can say that it is an excellent course. Going through the course clarified many of the concepts that was unclear in Phoenix. Eager to see the update with Phoenix 1.3, and new topics such as Channels and OTP. I would definitely recommend this course.
