Course Description
Installing Wordpress - Installation, domain registrars and web hosting is a course designed to give complete beginners all the knowledge and skills they need to install Wordpress on any web host.
We'll discuss domain registrars and web hosting, and see why it is better to use two separate companies for this, rather than relying on your web host to act as both host and registrar. If that statement confuses you, don't panic. I'll explain how to set all of this up, with videos and PDFs to help every step of the way. I'll even show you how to move a domain you already own to a separate domain registrar.
We'll look at two automated ways of installing Wordpress, plus a manual method using FTP for those that like adventure. I'll tell you which automated method is better, and why.
Once Wordpress is installed, we'll clean up the installation to remove the "fluff" that Wordpress installed. We'll look at adding posts and pages, and talk about the main differences between these two types of document.
One of the reasons I love Wordpress is the simplicity of changing the look and feel of the site using themes. We'll see how to find and install specific themes that meet your criteria, as well as how to install premium themes in case you buy one.
One of the most powerful features of Wordpress is the way it can be extended using plugins, which add new features and capabilities to an already powerful content management system. We'll look at finding and installing plugins (both free and premium), and I'll tell you some of the free plugins I use on most of my sites.
Finally, for those that want a 100% free Wordpress site, I'll show you how to create one. There are limitations to this type of Wordpress site, but hey, it's free, right? I'll let you know what you can and cannot do with these free sites.
By the end of this course, you will be able to install Wordpress on any web host, using a separate domain registrar, and understand why that is important.

I have written and published a number of books that are available on Amazon, including books on WordPress ("WordPress for Beginners 2026"), Self-Publishing ("Self-Publishing on Amazon 2025"), and A.I. (NotebookLM Mastery, ChatGPT for Beginners, ChatGPT for Seniors, AI for Students).
I also run a website called ezSEONews, where I provide tutorials on a number of skills required for running a successful website.
As an ex-schoolteacher, I hope I can make complicated topics simple to understand. I certainly enjoy trying!

I haven't had a chance to try installing yet, but it looks quite comprehensive. This course comes free with the Wordpress for Beginners course, which has a lot of really good information about setting up and using Wordpress, so I would recommend buying that course and then you have both. I would definitely recommend this course as a handy guide for reference.

A lot of detailed instruction provides the kind of foundation we need to get started with WordPress. However, the basic information is getting dated (2014), some screens and menus in the dashboard have changed, so the differences between what we see and what's in Andy's video can be confusing. And now, four years later, there may be more efficient avenues to setting up Wordpress sites, due to newer, emerging technologies. That being said, Andy is still thoroughly engaged with this course, almost immediately responding to posts and questions.

My first course from Andrew and was a great course. A little dated but I've purchased "Wordpress for Beginners - Master Wordpress Quickly" because of his delivery style.

Actually better than expected, not too low level, a good mix of things that a new user would need to know and some good reminders that experienced people might forget. Nothing really new of course but well laid out and presented.

It's outdated, making it difficult to follow along. But, for 'free', it gives you the basics.

ORG looking better than ever if you would care to take a look and give me some pointers. Steven Arkon

I am what you would call an extreme student in that I am taking over 140 courses on Udemy some free some not. I have never asked for a refund even if I did not engage completely in the course. I have found very few instructors I can actually learn from, with ease. Andy is one of a very select few that I have finished his course, not just taken what I can use and move on. Andy's delivery and content is excellent and at a pace I can and do appreciate.

Andy knows his subject inside out, and the course was very well presented. It covered more than I expected, with some very good recommendations in terms of hosting and plugins. Andy is also very active on the discussion board. I wouldn't hesitate to take further courses with this instructor. Highly recommended.

This is an excellent introduction to WordPress and highly recommended. All the lectures are very well presented and easy to understand. Andrew Williams is one of the very best instructors that I know of, and you can't go wrong taking any of his courses. My rating is 5 stars plus plus!

thanks, Andy for the intro that guides us through buying domains and setting up hosting. It certainly helped me buy and set up my site. The course was set at a good pace and you covered most things. The production quality was great. The only thing I would have liked to have seen was how to point one domain to another. Eg. if a user types in my .com name, they go to my .co.uk webpage
