Course Description

Whether you want to create websites without coding, or you need to learn WordPress so you can update existing websites at your job, I've got you covered.

In this brisk but thorough course we build a website together step-by-step and along the way you organically absorb and master WordPress. I'm all about having you follow along with me and I always encourage experimentation over memorization. My ultimate goal is to give you the "vocabulary of WordPress" so you can continue learning independently long after this course completes.

There is no prerequisite knowledge required and you do not need an existing website or web hosting account. You'll be setup with a new free hosting accountso you can begin learning WordPress immediately without needing to commit additional money for a dot com domain upfront (unfortunately students in India, Nigeria and Vietnam cannot sign up for the free 3 month starter hosting plan).

Here's a summary of what we cover:

Asking and answering "What is WordPress?"Setting up a new WordPress site/projectCreating pagesCreating blog postsCustomizing the colors & theme of your websiteEmbedding YouTube videos into your websiteSetting up custom navigation menusCreating photo galleriesInviting friends / family / coworkers into your WordPress (multiple authors)Asking and answering "What is a plugin?" & "What is a widget?"Letting visitors of your blog posts comment via their Facebook / Twitter accountsConfiguring an interactive "Contact Us" pageGuarding ourselves from comment and contact-form SPAMUsing a custom homepage instead of a generic "blog listing"Moving our website (exporting and importing) from one location (domain or host) to another

So far great. Although it would be great to have more suggestions few more plugins (maybe some list of plugins attached in resources) like using photo sliders which is one of the most common features or lightbox pop up with for posts so they don't open in a new page or lightbox when clicked on any chosen element like a product or paragraph so it opens up a lightbox with extra information like product description, details, history, etc.

Very good content and presentation. Hopefully author is working on updating content to reflect changes in Wordpress.

This course is excellent with clear and easy to follow directions and detailed explanations.

Very disappointed that the course has not been update with the new editor. It is now 1/11/2020 and I will struggle through the course using the new editor, since I do not need to learn two.

This course was very good. The videos were professional (e.g. - the volume was consistent, there was no static, and the video was always clear). Lots good information about many beginner-level topics. For my purposes, this course was a little bit too beginner - as, a person employed in a technical field already, I am used to Googling about topics as I go, and have come across this information easily in other places. But, to have a quick start video guide to WordPress all in one place, this is maybe the best course I've come across. I would personally have found it more helpful to get more information in the beginning about getting started with web hosting and domains, and getting it all pointed to WordPress, as really, most of what's covered here can be learned on the fly as needed. It's the hosting/domains part of getting started that tripped me up in the beginning, and through Google searching is hard to find good info on since sometimes it's hard to tell if something is just an advertisement or is legitimate information. Other than that, I think this course sums everything else up very well, and you will learn a lot to get started.

very clear, detailed explanations.

I appreciate the upbeat manner of speech, with an unabrasive intellectual style that gives me all the details I'm hungry for, without making me feel stupid. :-) EXCELLENT!!

Great into course to WP. I enjoy the way he teaches and explains things. I would definitely take another class of his. Thanks!

Great course for learning WordPress fundamentals, Brad is an excellent teacher. Easy to follow even for non-native English speakers.

By Mark Gray on 10/9/2020

Thoroughly enjoyed this course, it was what i expected, it teaches you the very basic elements and teaches you how to ceate the site, edit the site and add some new pages etc. I would have preferred a bit more detail on personalisation, but i guess thats what the other courses are for. In conclusion, if like me you have never used WordPress this is a great course to get you started, but you will no doubt be looking for another one after it, which leaves me to now start Unlocking Power with code, which is another one of Brad's courses and i hope it is as easy to learn :)

This is very exiting . Very good explanation as well as practical part .

By Tapan Chakravarty on 10/7/2020

A nice and quick course to get the fundamentals of WP.
The one area that caused a few hiccups for me was that, the course and the current software do not match (expected as the pace with which things in software industry change). However, some of the content seem much older than current, and would be nice if Brad could add some modules, say appendix, to share updates once in a while.
Thanks Brad. I will see you in your next course 'Unlocking power with code'.
