Instructor Details

Michael Santoro

Born in New York City, Mr. Santoro attended the High School of Art & Design where he was a member of the first ever, industrial design high school program in the United States. After graduating from Pratt Institute with a bachelor degree in Industrial Design, Mr. Santoro was accepted as the first ever, post-graduate design intern at Chrysler Corporation where, upon completion, he received an offer to join the staff.

Mr. Santoro spent 6 years as an automotive designer at Chrysler where he created the ground breaking, cab-forward exterior design for the 1995 Car of the Year, the first generation Chrysler Cirrus and it's sister vehicle, the Dodge Stratus. Before leaving Chrysler, Mr. Santoro penned the 1996-2006 Jeep Wrangler, returning the vehicle visually to its iconic roots while pushing it forward into the new century.

Returning to New York City, Mr. Santoro spent two years as a consulting designer for Walter Dorwin Teague, America's oldest design consultancy. There he worked on numerous programs including creating conceptual design interiors for Boeing Aerospace and the production interior for the Gulfstream G5 aircraft.

Mr. Santoro retuned to automotive design work as a consultant working on the Vector M12  production supercar and Vector M12 "American Anthem" North American International Auto Show show car. Additional projects including the  Lamborghini Jota show car followed.

The course taught me the basics of automotive design, in my opinion, fulfilling its purpose. However I do wish, especially in lecture 5, that he would elaborate a bit more on many of his points - mostly about shading and depth, as, while its importance was repeated many a time not only in the lecture, but in the entire course, it didn’t get that much elaboration in the end. Overall, though, very good course! I would highly recommend it to anybody looking to start their adventure in this field. Now off to part 2 I go!

Thank you very much Mr. Santoro. I am a mechanical engineer (I work in structural analysis) but I have always had a little artistic streak that I have never been able to completely suppress and from time to time my interest and appreciation for automotive design sprouts. I really enjoyed this introductory course. Cheers!

I used this curse as the base guidelines to perfect my design sketching technique and I really improved... I may still be lacking in the drawing from the shoulder technique because of years of drawing from the wrist but I'm on my way... Hope one day I'll get direct counseling from Santoro...

I saw lot videos about sketching and specially about sketching cars but what I find missing was the concept and the fundamentals on which things are build upon. Thanks Micheal it was really informative action packed course which gives you a solid base. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I loved it, i got it for a good price since it was my first time.......but woow this course is amazing and i hope i improvise my skill more by practising .....even though i had seen so many youtube videos, what i learnt hear was completely different and actually helpful....Thank you sir! The drawing skills and the talk of the instructor are helping me for more motivation and a visual idea of the auto designer job! I would like using the knowledge of drawing and combine it with computer applications that do not cost money for using. (photoshop,autocad,elias surface and etc.) and make a masterpiece.

This course is good for beginners. If there could be more templates to practice the basic shapes I would be more satisfied. The templates described in this course are rare which can give you idea. to master the basics I prefer to have more templates so that i wont loose my heat to learn things.
