Our take
Based on the ratings of 1,546 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in August 2020. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a small course, 3.5 hours across 38 lectures, built to get a complete beginner from an empty breadboard to reading sensors and talking to a computer over serial. Sam Thomas, an electronics trainer, walks through the Arduino Uno step by step: digital and analog output, digital and analog input, and serial communication, with an LM35 temperature sensor and an LDR along the way. Students need the actual hardware (Uno, breadboard, resistors, jumper wires, LEDs, a soldering iron) to follow along, so it is not a watch-only course.
Reviewers consistently call it easy to follow and light on jargon, which is the point for people with some programming background but no embedded experience. One reviewer highlights that every experiment comes with a hands-on demo that explains the details. The main complaint is scope: a few reviewers note it leans more toward general Arduino programming than deep embedded systems theory, and one flagged a wiring error in lecture 23 involving the anode connection. One reviewer called it good but short and basic, useful mainly as a starting point rather than a finishing point.
At 4.5 stars from 1,546 ratings, most students are satisfied, though a chunk of ratings land at 3 stars rather than 5. The course was last updated in August 2020, so it has not been refreshed in over six years, though Arduino fundamentals do not change fast. There are no coding exercises or projects built into the platform, just guided demos, so students supply their own practice afterward. Worth it for a first taste of embedded systems on a beginner budget, not a substitute for a fuller electronics or embedded curriculum.
Pros
- Hands-on demo for every concept instead of pure lecture
- Covers a genuinely broad sweep: digital I/O, analog I/O, sensors, serial
- A reviewer highlights the plain, jargon-free explanations as a strength
- Includes real sensor work with an LM35 and an LDR, not just blinking LEDs
Cons
- Only 3.5 hours; one reviewer calls it too short and too basic to go deep
- Leans more toward Arduino programming than embedded systems theory
- Last updated in 2020, no built-in coding exercises or projects
the teaching is really good but its to short course and also basic, but for those who are just starting wit h embedded , I would definitely recommend this course.
Best for true beginners with no embedded background; anyone who already codes for Arduino will find it too basic.

Very nice and simple hands on training without using too much tech jargon. Makes it very easy for the beginners like me.

Excellent course. Every experiment has a hands-on demo that explains everything in detail. This course walks you through the basics of embedded software and gives you the basics you need before you start expanding and working on your own projects. I would highly recommend.

It was a really good course. Although for Embedded Systems only the 1st parts were relevant other part was Arduino. I understand the maker of this course was trying to give more practical examples which I appreciate but it would have been better to see other more real life applications. But a 4.5 rating for this course as this is just introduction.

good going although but in video no. 23 there is problem with the connection setup. instead of +5V GND pin is prefarable for anode
By Chad Bohr on 7/29/2022
Good use of information and display of use of the Arduino. The explanations were easy to understand and matched the information I have received from other class information I have received. Thank you very much.

Nice course and also I recommend all the students and graduates to take this course who all are desperate to learn about arduino
By Asfak Ali on 4/26/2020
It was great experience, it was more interesting because of it shows practically and also provide knowledge clearly. Thank You
By Selvapriya on 3/18/2020
It was a good course covered all the basics. Explanation and presentation is really good. If the advance topics were covered, it would be better. Till section 2, its mostly theory, the experiments start from section 3 only.
