Introduction to Java for Programmers (Udemy.com)

The course is titled "Introduction to Java for Programmers" but at least one half of the course contains concepts that any decent programmer (no matter the language) would already know. Unfortunately, I either lost focus or skipped sections because of this. Once we got into Java specifics then the course was great.

This course is great on introducing java to programmers that already know OOP such as C++ or C#. In other words, it is clear on explaining the syntax of java and theories of how things work, but if you are not familiar with, lets say exceptions, polymorphism, stream io, then don't expect to learn it from this course, cause the practices aren't enough.

Everything is extremely organized and well explained, unlike some other programming classes I've taken on Udemy. It's nice to follow along with the textbook that is shown on the screen while the instructor speaks and there are lots of coding examples of the principles he discusses. Additionally, unlike most Udemy classes there are actually small homework assignments at the end of each section with answers provided that help you actually apply the knowledge you've gained by listening. It's a great check for understanding and allows you to have a examples of many topics for later reference.

Great course! I'm a university student currently seeking my bachelors of computer science. I'm taking a few courses this upcoming semester that require knowledge of Java language. This course was perfect for me as it was a my stepping stone to learning the language! I completed this course 100% and today I feel very confident in my ability to code in Java and continue learning the Java language. Also, over this past summer I had an app development internship that required me to develop daily in Java. Using this course as a reference and a solid way of practicing certain topics in Java, I was capable of understanding the oceans of code at my job and was even able to contribute to development of certain projects I had the opportunity to work on. Overall the course was great, if I have to leave come criticism I'd have to say that section 15 on I/O was a bit difficult to focus on and follow. Other than that, everything else was great. My learning was smooth and I have zero complaints! Thank you very much for the great teaching!

I finished this course and it has greatly aided me in a Masters Degree program where I have to pass a course in Java. Without the knowledge gained from this course, I would be failing my Masters class, because at that level, you are just presented with the material and expected to absorb it on your own. If the material or fashion in which it is presented is sub-par, you will find it very challenging to pass. With the degradation of the United States education institution, successful students will have to reach out more and more to self learning in order to keep up with the rest of the world. Anyways, great course, and only 30 bucks!!

The course is high quality. The speaker is excellent and enthusiastic, the materials are well put together and easy to follow, and the exercises are well distributed. My one complaint is that the course doesn't cover a lot of functional Java. I understand the aim of the course is to teach the structure and objects and unique aspects of Java, but a few more useful methods and larger examples would have made completion more satisfying. Also the examples are pretty easy. Great course though!

My thoughts were that this is awesome course, contains all the necessary things that you need to know in Java programming language but it's going too slow. Sometimes I got bored because going too slow, some lectures are 9-10 minutes long and I think they should be 3 minutes less... It would be 5 stars rating if it would be more interesting.

This course was amazing, even for a college student with experience in Java. I have viewed many other courses that taught Java, and I would have to say that this was one of the best! I also took intro to OO programming in my college class, and even with that I learned things like inheritance and polymorphism in this course that was not taught at my college. I would recommend this course for anyone who has experience/is new to Java, and I will for sure use this as a great reference for the future!

I have completed this course, and I must say that it is really top notch! I would have given it a full five star rating, if it had more in depth explanation and comparison between the different Collection interfaces in the chapter! Furthermore both with chapter 14 and the last chapter 16, I had the feeling that a smooth introduction about why IOExceptions and Collections are needed was missing. pro: + Jamie as the instructor is very pleasent to listen to + Jamie keeps a pleasent pace in teaching + its great to watch Jamie making errors and then correcting them while addressing to the learner (feels very personal) + the labs are great exercises and the lab reviews are done well + fast response time and good support + great introduction to JDE Eclipse which helps a lot and ease your life as a future programmer in so many ways neutral: o - no pdf handouts are included with this course, they can purchased separately. In my opinion they should be included since this course alone normally costs around 249 USD. negative: - Some topics are not detailed enough, for this reason I would suggest you to purchase a book such as "JAVA Head First" for in-depth studies.

I am an experienced software developer, and program in a number of languages. This Introduction To Java course by Learn By The Byte is, by far, the best course I have ever taken, including all of my college courses at DeVry. Jamie Romero is an excellent teacher. He knows the language and the development environment, and his personality shines through the videos. He keeps the student engaged, and his teaching style is very, very, understandable. I highly recommend this course to anyone interested in learning, or even relearning, the Java language, particularly using Eclipse.

Jamie was really great, he was enthusiastic and passionate during all the course and it was really easy to understand him. For an introduction to a language I think the course is really good and easy to follow.

The course was well-designed for students with a programming background, even a Java programming background. I found the course to be a great refresher on Java programming syntax and concepts. It also provided very good explanations and examples.
The instructor is very easy to listen too, which is good considering the large number of video lectures. The pacing of the lectures was just right for me. I was able to absorb most of the material the first time.
