Course Description
This free, 30-minute course provides an introduction and overview to a track of related courses being developed by The Online User eXperience Institute (OUXI), aimed at the small web business owner and other web designers and developers with little or no prior training in web user experience design. It provides the main foundational points you need to know before taking any of those courses, and they are not repeated in those courses, so please start here.
The concepts taught in this course are expanded upon by other courses in this OUXI curriculum track. The small fee you invest in these other courses could pay off in thousands of dollars in increased revenues from your ecommerce web site. This course explains how.
In particular, this course provides an overview of the key elements of the design of a web user interface that will impact the user experience: usability, persuasion and graphic design. It illustrates these elements with concrete examples from real websites.
The course also explains why and how the quality of the user experience will directly impact the bottom-line of eCommerce web sites.
The mission of OUXI is to provide:

The course evaluates websites which are more than a few years old. I would have appreciated it more if the content could have been updated, as well as the websites which were compared in the tutorials.

The course is really good and it gives a basic idea about how to use UX to built an E-commerce website. The instructor, Deborah J. Mayhew has good depth of knowledge. Only one suggestion, the course could be more intuitive if some if some interactive lessons are given.

The images of Websites that have been analyzed for usability, persuasiveness, and graphic design are quiet old. All of them have changed their design. However, I was still able to identify and appreciate the concepts thought till now, in this course.

The introduction of the course was good, but the section about "What makes a great user experience could have been better". Specifically would have preferred if the course author would have specified points to improve, usability, persuasiveness and graphic design of the website. Also it would have been more helpful if sites compared with each other on each parameter were selling same goods/had same value proposition for better comparison.

The presentation is clear and concise. What the course presents here is a basic knowledge, but as we all know it: it's the not acknowledging the basics and the fundamental concepts are amongst the most common mistakes people make over and over again. Great for starters! Highly recommend this course!

Instructor was knowledgable, and the content was well-organized. However, technical difficulties with every new 'slide' of the course. Video choppy throughout. All websites referenced were extremely old and dated.

This is a beginner's course but it offers all the fundamentals of a website's achieving a good User eXperience. The instructor did a very good job of presenting what tends to be a technical subject matter in a very professional yet understandable way. Audio and video are excellent which accompanied by the layout of the course material rates high in the User eXperience.

I didn't expect that a 30 minute course could teach me very much... but in the first 10 minutes, it has taught me a lot ! I will have to build my website using what I have learned in the first 10 minutes of this course... and there is still another 20 minutes to go. What will I learn there? So far: 5 Stars !

I was quite impressed with this class. It broke the subject down into very logical peices and gave an overview and example of each topic. The instructor knows what she is talking about and is very clear in her presentation style. I will be taking more courses from here.

It was really easy to follow. Basic knowledge that you could compile for free on the internet doing searches, but Dr. Deborah puts it in one place here. Most of the things I already knew, as a website builder, but there were a couple of tidbits that pricked up my ears as I knew what she as talking about, but didn't really think about the "why" aspect of it. As an instructor, she's not distracting at all so that you can follow along with the slides and demonstrations easily. Clear and precise English speaking is always a plus. The introduction was a little cheesy with different ocean backgrounds and Dr. Deborah having to get to her spot to speak that I almost thought I clicked the wrong course. But the intro isn't what you're here for. If you're new to website building...or just never thought about the "why" certain things are done, then you'll learn something from this course.
