What makes this course different

Many Java courses:

  • Stop at Java 8 or Java 11

  • Treat newer versions as bolt-ons

  • Focus on syntax rather than reasoning

You will:

  • Learn how Java evolved from Java 8 through Java 11, 17, 21, and 25

  • Understand why language features exist, not just how to use them

  • Work through assignments that evolve across Java versions

  • Learn with both real-world development and certification in mind

Topics are explained using:

  • Clear theory

  • Extensive, annotated code examples

  • Assignments that reinforce understanding

  • Video explanations for all practice questions

Excellent course. It’s concise and straight to the point. The style of teaching suited me down to a tee and exceeded my expectations. I needed to get up to speed with all the latest changes in Java (I haven’t used it in years) and did not want to waste time revisiting the fundamentals. This course fulfilled my goals. I left every section with a clear understanding and used the very precise notes to quickly revise and cement what I learned. Although I have no intention of sitting the OCP exam, I’d feel confident if I tried. Well done Dr Kennedy.

The almost 190 questions which are discussed one by one should also be available in tests. It wasn't good for me to listen to the lengthy lectures going through each of the questions and having no chance to test myself on them. Some parts of questions are not shown (hidden answers) or coming in very late int the video. Why Spring Boot in here? Its too short to be good and this is about java certification. Quantity isn't always quality - and this is an example.

I thoroughly enjoyed your course! The way you explained Java Streams—from basic operations to advanced terminal and intermediate operations—was clear, practical, and easy to follow. I especially appreciated the hands-on coding examples, which made understanding functional programming concepts in Java much easier. The section on Concurrency was equally impressive. You made complex topics like ExecutorService, Callable, Futures, and thread safety understandable, and the real-world examples helped solidify my learning. Your teaching style is very engaging, and the course structure allows learners to gradually build confidence with both Streams and Concurrency. I now feel much more confident in writing clean, efficient, and thread-safe Java code. Highly recommend this course to anyone looking to master advanced Java concepts. Thank you for creating such a high-quality learning experience!

Wonderful course! Even for experienced engineers. My first totally finished udemy course :) Step-by-step explanation of everything and great overview of java 11+ features. If you (like me) had experience only with Java 8 and what to know more, this course would be best choice for you! Probably i can highlight only one topic, which i didn't get (explanation is fine but i totally didn't get what is it needed for - Java 11 Modules) And also i expected that there would be more practice with streams and collections, especially collections All the other course is great and i greatly recommend it to everyone Dr. Sean Kennedy, thanks you a lot!

As a Java developer looking to stay updated with the latest technologies and techniques, this course has exceeded all my expectations. The comprehensive coverage of Java 21, Java 17, Java 11, and advanced Java 8 techniques provides a solid foundation for modern Java development projects. What impressed me the most about this course was its practical approach. From the beginning, the instructor provides clear and applicable examples that make each concept easy to understand and apply in real-world situations. Additionally, the modular structure of the course allows students to progress at their own pace and review concepts as needed. In addition to covering the latest features of Java, the course also delves into advanced programming techniques that are essential for writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code. From the use of lambdas and streams to functional programming and concurrency, each section of the course is carefully designed to expand and enhance the student's programming skills. Another highlight of the course is the quality of instruction. The instructor demonstrates a deep understanding of the Java language and exceptional ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely. Additionally, the availability of additional resources such as practical exercises and supplementary materials further enriches the learning experience. In summary, this course is a must-have course for any Java developer looking to stay current with the latest trends and improve their programming skills. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to take their Java development career to the next level.

Dr Séan is a wonderful teacher. He explains things very meticulously, making sure you understand the topics covered on each lesson. Some of the things explained here I already knew and used them on a daily basis, but for some of them I never stopped and thought why those things worked that way, and these doubts were clarified here. It would be a 5/5 if some of the chapters you have here were not long videos (

By David Anguiano on 1/25/2024

Excellent course! All the topics were covered in depth and the code examples were explained in detail almost line by line. Regarding the code examples I liked too much that the instructor didn't waste time writing code, instead he spend the required time to perfectly explain the code examples, I think this helped to make de videos concise and directly to the point. Also I liked so much that for some topics mnemotechnics are provided that can be helpful to memorize the syntax covered for some topics or constructs available in Java.

I've just completed the first "round" of the course, meaning I've seen all the lessons and now I'm starting the preparation phase on the exam tests. I'm a senior engineer and this course helped me not only as aconcepts refresh but also to update me on the latest evolutions of Java17. The course itself deserves 5 stars BUT the subtitles of the translations, probably auto-generated, are most of the time completely wrong (i tried the english version) and it's not fault of the teacher but of the platform. Thankfully the teacher speaks impeccable English.

By Domenic Cassisi on 6/12/2023

EDIT: Thanks to this course, another course on PluralSight, and the practice tests from enthuware, I was able to pass the exam with a score of 90%. Thanks for this great course. It demonstrates many advanced topics in detail. I recommend using the practice exam questions from Enthuware as part of the exam preparation. I noticed that not all exam topics were covered, depending on the certification exam you want to take. For example, for the Java 17 cert, you are required to know how to handle transactions in JDBC, which is not covered in this course. So make sure you got all topics covered before you take the exam :)

By Thomas Jahnsen on 6/5/2023

The most valuable part of the course is for "old" Java programmers to get a refresh on the new parts from versions 11 and 17, but don't feel it gives the depth needed for the certification. The videos suffer from poor sound quality, and the voice-over add-ons are a bit grating, and gives the impression of a patchwork. Made a list of impressions made during the course: - Generics with extends/super is a quite difficult topic, it needs some depth, especially which situations you would want to use each. The Generics topic also misses the "T extends Class" format for methods or classes. - The Concurrent collections part don't show concurrent code examples, so you don't get an overview when you would want to use the different variants. - There are some missing assignments, like no assignment for Concurrency or I/O. - ResourceBundle ought to show the file hierarchy between source and resources. - The section on Annotations start with the goals "create, apply, process", but how to process (runtime) annotations are not covered. - Even though "dummy" code can be helpful to distill only the essential parts of a topic, if the course ONLY uses it, it doesn't teach when to apply it, or how it works for real. Like "how/when to use specific concurrency collection classes", "how/when to use Module Services". Some aspects that I liked: - Arrow annotations are helpful to see relationships in the code.
