Messaging System
Nowadays, we work with multiple systems and data that run among them. It's common for one system to trigger another system(s) process, or data needs to be transferred among systems. Whether your systems are built on monolith or microservice, whatever database you use, you need data moving from one point to another. And you need those movements FAST to be processed immediately (otherwise, your life will be ruined).
That kind of demand is so common, and fortunately, today's technology has an answer for it. Say hello to messaging systems, where you can send messages easily from one system to another system(s) asynchronously, in an almost real-time interval. There are some popular messaging systems in the market, and in this course, we will be talking about one of the most popular: Apache Kafka.
Apache Kafka
Apache Kafka is like a central hub where you place all data from the source system(s), and the other corresponding systems take the data and process it. It is open-source, reliable, and able to work on clusters. It has a small learning curve to start, yet it is powerful enough for system integrations.
This course includes everything you need to know about basic Apache Kafka, and implementation using Java (Spring Framework). After finishing this course, you should be able to install, configure, and use Apache Kafka from the Java Program. In this course, we will walk through detailed step-by-step from concept to hands-on Java coding. Given such a way, you will learn to understand its logic and experience how things are done using Apache Kafka and Java source codes.
Java and Spring Boot
Java has been a popular language for years. It is recognized as the world's most used programming language by several programming language indexes. Due to its popularity and long history, Java has many open source projects or frameworks to help developers work more efficiently.
One popular Java framework is the Spring Framework. Over the years, It has grown substantially among the Java community. Almost all software components required by a Java application are available within the Spring Framework. However, configuring Spring requires some effort. This involves setting up library dependencies and configuring the required Java Spring beans using XML or annotations in Java code. Spring developers soon realized that it is possible to automate much of this work.
So, in 2014, Spring Boot 1.0 was released for the Java community. Spring Boot gives Java programmers many automatic helpers and led to the quick large-scale adoption of the project by Java developers.
Spring provides good support for Kafka and the abstraction layers to work with over the native Kafka Java clients. With Spring, developing applications to interact with Apache Kafka is becoming easier.
Github Copilot as AI Assistant
GitHub Copilot can streamline Java development with Spring Boot and Apache Kafka by suggesting code snippets, generating boilerplate code, and offering best practices. It helps set up Kafka producers and consumers, configure Spring Boot applications, and integrate Kafka for real-time data processing. Copilot’s contextual suggestions improve productivity and reduce errors by providing relevant code examples and automated completions, enhancing development speed and code quality in your Java projects.
What You Will Get
After finishing the course, you will learn:
Installation of Apache Kafka and Java for development environment
How to use AI Assistant (Github Copilot) to boost your coding productivity
Apache Kafka key concepts
Create publisher and consumer using Java (Spring Boot)
Basic error handler if there is a failure during processing of Apache Kafka message
Basic understanding of how Kafka fit into Microservice Architecture
The course explains not only the theory of Apache Kafka but also a lot of hands-on coding to get your hands dirty and your brain working. Whether you are a hobbyist, beginner, or experienced developer, this course will surely add value to you!
Road to Microservices
Message broker is an important pillar of microservice architecture. In microservices, we use asynchronous messaging for inter-service communication. Services communicate by exchanging messages over messaging channels like Apache Kafka.
In this course, you will learn the theory and hand-code of messaging with Apache Kafka, a microservice architecture communication pillar.
Later on, you can learn more about Microservice Architecture & Patterns, with Kafka as an important component.

Timotius P
Timotius came from small Indonesian city but now working on it's capital : Jakarta. He's been in software engineering job for years. His first job was in the large consumer finance in Indonesia. Then he took a role as Engineering Manager on Indonesian unicorn. Few moments after, he moved back to another large Indonesian consumer finance and take a role on Engineering & Architect Head.
Taking the role as Head, he get more time to coach his team members about software engineering practice.
With more than 5 years experience as Java developer, and for the last few years handle enterprise complexity as Engineering Manager & Enterprise Architect, he will be glad to deliver high quality courses containing information of various technologies and software architecture design skills that he has acquired through his professional experience.
His goal is to deliver courses that not only good in theory, but also applicable in real-life use cases. His courses give the concept, and the hand-coding experience. He will also provide various resources, including source code to hands-on coding.

This course has a very good content and the instructor clearly knows very well the subject. But don't take this course on Linux, i've had several issues running the examples on Linux. Please put the code on github so your git client can switch to windows crlf or linux. The code for the scripts isn't availble. The section on Kafka connect needs an update since the connector is not availble on confluent cloud. There are issues with docker volumes regarding permissions, please address these issues, so next time other students running linux don't suffer as i did.

Overall this course is a good Kafka Camp, but here we cover a lot of topics, so a Confluent Platform Control Center (docker-compose) would be essential, first of all; keeping the concepts in a modern dashboard, VS Code with light theme doesn't make sense, a lot of course content was repositioned based on the dumbest AI (copilot), a complete waste of time

The course is very comprehensive. I really appreciate Timotius's effort to put all the materials together in one course. And I like the written English scripts. I would like to make a personal suggestion. I think this course can be cleaned up and trimmed down to 12-15 hours. I personally like long story short. A shorter course is easier for the instructor and students to manage and review.

Please slow down your audio Mr. Timotius .. coz your English is not neutral .. I can understand you only if I run the vdo at 0.75x speed

It is good until now I think that the accent is not a problem because is understandable and the subtitle are very well. The content is very cool and the explanation with different case of uses are really useful in the life of some developer.

The accent is not that difficult to grasp, esp with subtitles on. Almost done with 50% of the course. I am a beginner, and I find the course really helpful. Deserves 5. The instructor also talks about general design practices which are really insightful, feel it's a nice plus to the course.

Highily Recommended, i already bought one another course on kafka from another Instructor but this is the best course i have, all points are clearly expaind, i do not understand why some negative views for this course, but after doing this i am satisfied with this course. Thanks

It is very hard to understand. Fortunately the English caption works fine. Furthermore, it is never used the spring function style to define the streams which makes it much easier to work with it. However, I learned some interesting knowledge.
By Alexander Zykov on 11/11/2020
Im not a completely newbie in kafka (I can install it and play with it), but there were some interesting aspects regarding high level overview which were new for me. thank you for the lesson. It's on the one hand pretty good detailed on another provides architectural knowledge which are also important for understanding.
By Yngwie1992 Robbins on 6/5/2020
Gold mine of information. Kafka is very broad topic. But I've learned a lot and I am aware of what I am able to do with Kafka and Spring. I know better what solutions I can use to solve real life problems. Thank you !
