Course Description
Kubernetes is a container orchestration system used to automate software deployment, scaling and management.
Effectively, Kubernetes is a management tool direct the running of Docker images.
This course is designed to give you more of 'real world' application of Kubernetes.
You are given four different Spring Boot Microservices, which compose an application. The services communicate via RESTful APIs or JMS messages.
You will learn how to compose each service into a Kubernetes Deployment. And then use Kubernetes Services to expose the microservices to each other.
With Kubernetes, it is a best practice to configure Readiness and Liveness probes. Since our services are persisting data, we will also configure a graceful shutdown to prevent any data loss.
One common issue with Microservices is logging. Each running instance will generate its own log output. Thus, it is common to use consolidated logging.
A very common approach is to use the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana). Elasticsearch is a full-text search engine. Logstash is used to get log data into a common format for Elasticsearch. And Kibana is a power data visualization engine. Together, these tools allow you to consolidate and search through your log data.
If you wish to see a realistic example of Spring Boot Microservices being managed in a Kubernetes environment, enroll in this course today!

Hi. I'm John.
I've been in the IT industry for over 25 years. Today, I specialize mainly in Java, the most successful and widely known programming language in use today. I also specialize with the Spring Framework, which the most popular open source application framework for building enterprise class applications on the Java platform. Just some of the organizations I've worked with include Visa, Kohls, Federal Home Loan Bank, and Belk Department Stores.
Through the courses I'm providing, I hope to leverage my years of experience to accelerate your learning of the Spring Framework. I'm not going to lie to you. The Spring Framework is a big framework. The environment for enterprise Java is even bigger. If you're new to Java, you have a lot to learn. I hope through the content on this web site I can accelerate your education of the Java and Spring landscape.

This is a nice introduction for a very beginners in running the microservices with kubernetes and docker. But this is pretty briefly and needs deep learning.

Me gusta la forma en que explica las cosas

It's easy to understand. I can create a simple one for my small project. Thanks!

The course presents relevant basics on deploying apps to Kuberentes. However, a huge part of the course repeats the same workflow over and over again. i.e. creating deployment and service descriptions as YAML files and applying them. This all done based on an existing Docker Compose file from another course of the author; the presentations of both Spring Boot Microservices and Kubernetes remain sketchy and superficial here. I found the course useful as a free starter but limited to this purpose.

You should complete the SpringBoot/SpringCloud Beginner to Guru course before taking this course. It will be a lot easier for you to complete assignments if you have some knowledge of SpringBoot development prior to attempting to deploy applications to Docker or Kubernetes. This course is required in order to get a real handle on the tail end of the SpringBoot/SpringCloud Beginner to Guru course. The project's starting point is when all of the projects from the SB/SC course have been developed. This has a complete deployable bundle that runs under both Docker Compose or Kubernetes. I did notice some deployment issues that I had to spend some time to repair, and do a pull request back into the main project. Take your time, do all 3 courses in order, and you'll have a much better understanding of SpringBoot deployment into a docker container, Docker, Kubernetes, and finally, distributed logging using the ELK stack with filebeat.

Thanks John, this is a thorough intro to Spring Boot apps on Kubernetes.

Good course in a very synthetic way. This is a typical JT course where he is ready to present to the real world. The only caveat in this course is that the complexity of the micro-services topic requires the student to have a deeper understanding of micro-services theory and Kubernetes in general. The course is designed for students with this background who want to quickly see a typical example of running microservices.
