Course Description
This course is several hours in length and will cover Layer 2 switching in detail. I will explain the Technology and media access control method for Ethernet networks, network segmentation, switching concepts and the operation of Cisco switches.
DISCLAIMER: Please note that the simulators/emulators used in this course are not part of the course. It is the students responsibility to have these to practice with. The Cisco Packet Tracer and/or VIRAL (Virtual Internet Routing Lab) are Cisco proprietary software and can only be obtained through Cisco. It is up to each student to obtain the simulator/emulator of their choice to study along with this course.
Students will get a thorough understanding of switching and how we would implement it in a real world environment.
We will discuss the following concepts switching services and rules we should follow when segmenting networks. We will also compare bridging vs. LAN switching focusing in great detail on the Spanning-tree protocol. We will look at the switch Functions at layer two, such as how a switch learns about the nodes on the network and how it makes its decisions to forward the information and most definitely how to secure our ports on the switches.
Once get an understanding of how switches work and their administrative configurations we will then go into explain and creating vlans and inter-vlan connectivity and what would be the benefits of using VLANs on our network. You will learn the different port types and encapsulation methods we use when using vlans, and will fully understand the difference between trunking a port and the VTP protocol.
This is a lecture based course using the Touch-IT Technology Smart board, which will make learning very interactive and engaging. Hands on labs will be used to drill down the concepts learned in each lecture using Cisco’s Packet Tracer.
My method will make you feel like you are sitting in a classroom environment and give the most needed hands on experience!
Handouts will be available to facilitate learning and practice.
This course will help the student become familiar with layer 2 switching and vlans and how to implement them in your environment…but it will also help in preparing for any networking certification or Computer Science Degree; not to mention the fact that for those already in the field, it will further improve routing decisions in their particular networks.

Enjoyable course that provided good information. The only reason this doesn't have a 5 star from me is because there are some quality issues. It is difficult to see what is going on at times and occasionally difficult to understand what is being said. Nothing to the point of breaking the course but it made certain moments for me become a nod my head and move on moment.

The instructor does a fantastic job in the way he presents the material. He is articulate and easy to follow. He keeps me both focused and interested in the subject material. Following along with him using packet tracer really ties everything together.

The course is taught in an easy to understand format. I like how he has you use Packet Tracer to follow along. Highly recommended. I've taken CCNA in both college and continuing education courses throughout the years and he definitely ranks up there among the best instructors I've had.

Minor spelling issues on the quiz at the end, incorrect PVID acronym description. Not "Personal", but "Port". Would like to have seen MST during the spanning tree lessons, but maybe it's not on the exam. He did recognize and fix issues with other courses being too loud and standing in front of the screen's information while discussing it. Excellent overview and examples. I would recommend this course.

Some of the concepts and description of the algorithms (e.g. STP) in this course are not clear enough. Yes, they work for CCNA but you have to learn them by heart without asking yourself too many questions. Not the best course on UDEMY by "Laz" for sure.

i love this dude, so much. but the audio quality is unacceptable. there Distortion, Clipping, Not enough high frequency everything is on the bass, the volume goes up and down. if i wouldnt need the course i would get my money back, but i need it so...

This is an easy to digest course. The instructor has a really good energy and will point you in the right directions when it comes to getting your certifications. I recommend getting all the courses for CCNA that Laz has they round up really good the preparation for your certification. P.S. Udemy has really good discounts from time to time so no excuses :)

Very nice course for people interested in networking even if I dont plan to go for the CCNA exam anytime soon. There is still a lot to learn and the best thing is the packet tracer and Laz is showing everything as he goes through the respective topics. Thanks Laz

Great course! Teaching method is fun to watch which is a plus a when learning Cisco. Made me further understand the details of Layer 2 switching. The video does go out of focus on some of the videos but its bearable. I enjoy Laz's teaching method that I actually have all his Cisco courses.

Thank you Laz for taking the time to put these courses together... after watching a few of your videos on YouTube, I was happy to sign up for this course via udemy. I have been taking courses sponsored by the Cisco Learning Network and your course help make it all "connect".... Many Thanks!
