Course Description

You’ve heard it over and over again … meetings are a complete waste of time.

And with statistics like these, it’s hard to disagree:

  • 73% of meeting attendants admit to doing unrelated work

  • 39% of professionals (including executives) admit to falling asleep during a meeting

  • 91% admit to daydreaming & 96% say they’ve missed meetings on purpose

  • Roughly 50% of time spent during meetings has been found to be entirely useless and unproductive

It’s no wonder meetings get a bad rap.

Without any plan or agenda, they end up being just another excuse for team members to hang out and talk on the company dollar.

But contrary to this growing perception, there’s still one type of meeting that’s commonly regarded as one of the most important functions within your business.

It’s why Google places them at the very top of their “best practices” list …

It’s why Andy Grove, former CEO of Intel, regards them as having a 10X return on investment ...

And whether you’re an employee, manager, colleague, or executive - using this type of meeting can help you boost results and overcome any challenge that comes your way.

So what type of meeting are we talking about?

As you’ve likely already guessed, we’re talking about 1-on-1 meetings … and for good reason.

Among many other benefits, 1-on-1 meetings have been shown to:

  • Strengthen relationships

  • Improve productivity (yes, they actually do not take up more time)

  • Build team loyalty

  • Benefit everyone involved

So the question then becomes …

How exactly can you effectively use 1-on-1 meetings to strengthen communication and put you in a better position to accomplish your goals and objectives?

Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to cover in this course.

We’ll cover:

  • Why 1-on-1 meetings are better than group meetings

  • How to create effective 1-on-1s to guide career development

  • Ways to conduct helpful performance reviews & formal meetings with your reports

  • How to devote meeting time to projects & solve challenging problems with colleagues

  • Using 1-on-1s to effectively meet with people in different departments

  • What it takes to have a successful 1-on-1 meeting with your boss

  • How to use 1-on-1 meetings to benefit your job and career

By the end of this course, you'll know exactly how to structure and lead effective 1-on-1 meetings with anyone in your company - from the people you lead, to colleagues, and even your boss!

Let’s get to it.

The course is a great summary of every type of possible 1-2-1 you might have. It offers many tips and summary sections are great - could easily be used as refreshers or cheat sheets in the future. I also liked the fact that when it comes to development it was made clear it depends on each of us individually and that sometimes it is not possible to achieve required results in your current job.

I have a better understanding of how to effectively manage meetings and provide constructive feedback to both my team members and my superiors.

By Masud.Parvez on 7/5/2026

I gained a lot from this course because it showed me why 1to 1 meetings are more effective than group sessions. I learned how to use them for career development, conduct constructive performance reviews, and devote time to solving project challenges with colleagues. It also helped me see the value of meeting across departments and how to prepare for successful conversations with my boss. Overall, the experience was very good and gave me practical confidence to apply these skills. As a learner, I feel the course would be even stronger if the content was presented in one 15 to 30 minute video with fewer but more focused segments, instead of many small clips, making the flow smoother and easier to follow.

The course could use some interactive sections in-between lectures and/ or tests to verify knowledge.

This was a great course to take as it was succinct, yet detailed and highlighted all the important information and required takeaways when conducting 1x1s. It wasn't drawn out and was kept to pertinent details needed to have a productive 1x1 with your team member(s).

By Jon DeFiore on 5/11/2026

Very insightful and helpful information so far. I like that the sessions are short and about a specific topic within the context of the larger learning that it's providing.

It was ok, some things were very useful - such as the tips and trics for the agenda, questions etc. , thought most of the mentioned way how to/what to I have known already. The speed of the speach of the speaker was too quick for me. Thx

By Zanele Yoyo on 3/2/2026

This was a wonderful course on effective communication on 1 on 1’s, and performance reviews should be enforced at a workplace, to encourage and support employees when needed

By Lisa A Williams on 2/24/2026

my job involves chat with people to get information regarding work products completed . This session is going to help me plan better and translate my requirements in a better manner.

By Ava Gainer on 1/22/2026

In a couple of careers there were never one-on-one meetings with the manager and there was a disconnect. I believe if the one-on-ones were established it would have been so much better. All they wanted was for me to get the job done.
