Course Description

Learn more about using Brackets as your code editor.

A modern, open source text editor that understands web design. Learn how to use Brackets and see all the functionality in action. Learn about top extensions and addons. Review of best setup techniques.

Learn how to use Brackets and how you can easily switch to using Brackets as your code editor.

I've been a web developer since 2000 and have used a number of code editors. I was originally using Dreamweaver in a number of my courses. I found that there were many students who wanted to have the same editor and setup that I have as they follow along with course content. I switched to several open source editors until I found Brackets. I've been using Brackets on a regular basis and found that I don't open Dreamweaver as much anymore. The best part of Brackets its free, so anyone who wants to use the same editor as I do in my courses can do so without barrier.

I decided to create this course to illustrate how to get brackets, how to set it up and some of the advanced features available in Brackets. In addition I wanted to list out top extensions to really power up your Brackets application.

I also cover my XAMPP server setup which allows me to use localhost as my webserver. XAMPP is really straight forward on getting going so most of the course is focused on using Brackets.

It was very helpful from a beginner perspective but I think the course content needs to be updated with new version and adaptations. At some point, I was unable to install extensions it kept saying invalid. I think it would benefit if a walk through is added on how to install extensions via URL or file.

A bit dated, I discovered PSD extract support was removed by Adobe a couple years ago but the course was on offer at no cost so I'm not complaining. Actually forces me to go find out the missing stuff myself so that's a good part of self directed learning. Nevertheless, it would be good for the tutors profile to keep it fresh with regular updates.

This course is really good for learning the basics of using Adobe Brackets application, but not helpful if you wish to know in-depth. However, this course can you to get you started with an amazing code editor.

it's really useful course about brackets i used brackets for a long time ago actually is my first code editor and i find some new stuff in this course .... about extensions there's a bunch of very useful extensions you didn't mention it within lectures like emmet , color palette, auto prefix, indent liner...etc. -- overall is a useful good course.

The general overview of Brackets + the info regarding Xampp (creating a localhost on your machine) + integrating Adobe PS (though I'm currently not using that feature) was extremely helpful. I'd been using Notepad++, but after getting a new computer thought I'd try something different and upgrade to something else. I'm very pleased thus far with Brackets. The videos were easy to follow.

The content was good but delivered too fast. I had to search on net how to accept a quick edit once I had created a new rule. I wanted to know what extensions the instructor had installed but they were never gone over. Finally searched and found John Papa's blog and got a list of his extensions. Never knew how to activate extensions via the instructor. For example, I changed themes but didn't know or hear I had to go to the view menu and then click you wanted something other than the default. All of these concerns would be non existent if the instructor had slowed down and had more emphasis on the various changes available.

With it's live features (such as 'linting' _ W3C validation _ Live Preview etc) the Brackets application represents a quantum leap in code editing _ I highly recommend Laurence Svekis excellent course which walks you through how to make the transition from your old editor to Brackets _ He covers every aspect of the application as well as pointing towards the resources and manuals that will help you explore further _ If you're thinking of changing to Brackets (and you really should!) then this course is a great way to learn about the application _

This very short "course" could have been a lot better. 1> Using PSDs. It would have been nice to see the conversion of a complete page instead of just bits of one, to get the workflow down. Instead it felt like this was the tutor's first time using the feature - not very inspiring. 2> Using Xampp. Can vhosts be used with this feature? 3> Plugins and Themes - What are the "top 10" recommended ones or must haves? Need I go on...

Very informative of an excellent & useful app. Brackets is my favorite website editor. Previously, I did not know about Brackets interacting with Photoshop & Adobe Creative Cloud.
