Course Description
For ages, psychologists have been studying the self. Anytime we think about who we are, we engage in a very special thought process. After all, who knows us better than ourselves?
This course serves as a quick introduction to the psychology of the self. You'll learn four major components about this fascinating field of study:
- The Self-Concept: How do we come to understand who we are, what our traits are, what our skills are, etc.? This section looks at what it means to have a "self-concept" and how it develops.
- Self-Esteem: We've all heard of self-esteem, but psychologists spend countless hours understanding what it is, including components of self-esteem that you've never considered before.
- Self-Motives: Let's face it: we can be defensive. If someone says something negative about us, we feel compelled to refute it. This section looks at all the ways people are motivated to think about themselves in particular ways and what they do to ensure they maintain a particular self-concept.
In this series of lectures, you'll learn from a trained social psychologist and come to understand the essentials of the psychology of self. With quiz questions that reinforce your learning and examples that connect the research to your own life, this course is designed to help you quickly master this information. So enroll now and start learning about this fascinating field of social psychology!
**Please note that this is one part of the full "Learn Social Psychology" course. If you want to learn about the psychology of the self, and you're not ready to take the plunge for the full social psychology course, this is a great place to start!

The course does exactly what it says. it helped me understand where my self esteem stems from, what I tend to do on the daily to boost my self esteem, that some of us are prone to self handicapping. It helped me understand that for self esteem, we relate how much we're liked and relevant, how self competent we are. That was a big one for me because I often feel like I'm not skilled enough, so my self esteem was taking a hit cause of that attribute which was self competency. All in all, a good course. Helped me understand self esteem better.

Me gustó entender que el autoestima es un cúmulo de pensamientos, percepciones, interpretaciones de todo lo que nos rodea desde que tenemos uso de consciencia Comenzamos a formarla.

I´m so happy regarding taking this course, its really interesting and it´s more useful that we think. I mean: the fact that a person he/she is able to say with certainty who he is and what he means in society; not everyone can do that.

The course was really good and so informative. There were some parts of the course that made reference to “as we just talked about” but we hadn’t. Everything else was very informative and very easy to understand. The lecturer has a gift for teaching

An engaging course introducing psychological concepts which apply to everyone. The quick exercise at the beginning is very helpful to get the thinking process going.

Because I believe the concept of self is ever changing and evolving each moment of our lives. It’s a part of the human experience. I think the concept of self is infinite and by making it seem so simple can be misleading when it comes to someone trying to discover themselves and who they are. More topics/studies would be helpful in challenging a person to look/think beyond the scope. (My personal opinion).

I had a great experience throughout this course. I had taken it with an aim to understand about psychology in general but it helped me understand a lot about me too. Thanks a ton for this course.

This lecture reminds me when I was in College. It brings some of my learning memories back from school. It's easy to understand and thank you for the explanation and example, it makes so much easier to know and understand what it means.

I really loved the way the teacher taught the course by giving relatable examples which enabled better comprehension on a complex topic. I would love to have another set of course based on the influence of society on the self. (Would definitely take the class! :) )
