Course Description
The constant need for smarter technology that learns and grows with you has become crucial, even when it comes to writing software code. This includes programming languages that understand and learn with you as you continue to write. Scala is one of the most impressive programming languages currently in the market.
In order to deal with the shortcomings of Java language and restrictions that did not give the developer to do what he wanted, Scala was invented by Martin Odersky in 2001. According to Scala website, the programming language allows developers to have the best of both worlds – object oriented programming and functional programming.
Scala is a pure-bred object-oriented language, where every value is an object and every operation is a method-call. Additionally, it is also a functional language, with features such as a general preference of immutability over mutation, first-class functions, and a library with efficient immutable data structures.
Scala source code is expected to be compiled to Java bytecode, allowing the code to run on a Java virtual machine. Additionally, Java libraries can directly be used in Scala coding, and vice versa. Similar to Java, Scala uses a curly-brace syntax reminiscent of the C programming language. However, it also incorporates aspects of other programming languages such as Standard ML, Haskell and Scheme.
Because of its flexible nature, Scala can be used for a wide range of tasks including writing small scripts to building large systems. Currently, it has been successfully incorporated for large mission critical systems by companies such as LinkedIn, Intel and Twitter.
With this many benefits, it is no wonder that Scala is currently one of the most demanded programming language that is used for developing. Its flexible nature and its ability to handle large amounts of data in real time, along with being concise and agile is making it a popular choice for open-source and Big Data projects.
Does Scala sound like the perfect solution for your developing needs? Well, look no further. All you need is this intensive course to learn all you need to know about Scala. Our course has been designed by experts to teach you not only the functionality of Scala, but also why you should use Scala, its benefits as well as the basic fundamentals. The course will also cover real world examples that can help you actually incorporate Scala in your daily developing.
Well what are you waiting for? Enroll in this course now and see why a lot of people are shifting from using just Java to Scala for all their programming needs.

JVM Languages section needs to be improved. This section should contains more details about functional programming capabilities of different languages. Also ,"Scala Success Stories" should be part of later section of course since user has just start learning Scala and he finds difficulty to understand these parts.

I can't recommend this course, the presentational is terrible with the lecturer breaking up sentences and phrases at random. This makes it very hard to listen to, and combine that with some really sketchy pronunciation (asynChronEously, anyone) it really puts me off. Worst of all, the introduction section has jumped from a tiny bit of Scala syntax to looking into domain models in Play. Shouldn't we learn Scala first?

Although this course does cover some of what I wanted it feels like it explains the very basic then jumps to the advanced then back again without ever really covering the middle (I was suprised that the play framework was in this course at all, let alone before passing a function as an argument). I also feel like sometimes weird things are presented without being mentioned. For example in the consumer and producer example the println method stops printing to the console and starts printing to (what i assume is) the output stream, which is... wierd, why does it do that, what made it do that and how would I know it was about to happen. I would have wanted that mentioned. The com.example._ import style is also used a lot. I don't know if that's idiomatically scala but it makes the examples really hard to follow, you have these variables (not just functions which is bad enough) cropping up in the code and no idea where they come from. The equivalent static imports in java are basically never used, for good reason

Didn't like the course, poorly explained and the author didn't start explaining what is traint, what the difference between val and var and a long list of thing. It's a course for people with no previous background in functional programing

The teaccher knows very well of all related to real cases in Scala development, but I expected a more "formal" course, starting with the pure language then going to the details and the environment / ecosystem. Maybe this could be 2 courses: 1 pure scala andd another oof how to apply it in real world cases.

The content and structure of this course is good so far. The course covers highly relevant information to work with Scala as productive as possible. I did not only learn Scala in this course. The topics are closely related to the use of Scala in practice. The sound quality needs improvement.

When I started learning about Scala, I thought it was one of the most difficult programming languages out there. So many different functions, classes and methods to remember. However, this course was perfect for me. It broke down the programming language into simpler mini lessons that were easy to grasp and understand. The instructor is great, but I wish the video was a little peppier as it felt a little monotonous. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this course for anyone who wants to learn Scala. Great job guys!

There is a lot of value here, but you definitely will not "Learn to build Scala Apps From Scratch." As a Scala 101 class, I'm happy with this purchase. The teacher is credible, and does a good job making the case for the adoption of the Scala language, gives a brief overview of the intricacies of Concurrent programming, and shows some of the critical syntax differences between Java and Scala. He also shows you how to get your IDE configured to begin writing Scala code, and he also gives you an introduction to Gradle. Despite this, you do very little actual programming in this course, it's all lecture.

I was glad I had already taken other Scala courses before taking this one. I don't think I would have been able to follow the content without some base knowledge of Scala. Very good examples on how to build a modular application using Gradle! This course is a good reference for future projects but I would not take it if I wanted to learn Scala. Also, the volume in all lectures was very low and I could barely hear while seating in a cafe with ambient noise.

it helps if you had previously took some scala courses / books. Because scala is vast in terms of set up / hitting the ground / understanding the fundamentals behind the language design etc. its easy to get lost and give up. this course will take you direct to the point, but you may not understand the details. a quick googling around those items you do not understand will complement this course.
