Course Description

This 1-week, accelerated course builds upon previous courses in the Data Engineering on Google Cloud Platform specialization. Through a combination of video lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on labs, you'll learn how to create and manage computing clusters to run Hadoop, Spark, Pig and/or Hive jobs on Google Cloud Platform. You will also learn how to access various cloud storage options from their compute clusters and integrate Google's machine learning capabilities into their analytics programs. In the hands-on labs, you will create and manage Dataproc Clusters using the Web Console and the CLI, and use cluster to run Spark and Pig jobs. You will then create iPython notebooks that integrate with BigQuery and storage and utilize Spark. Finally, you integrate the machine learning APIs into your data analysis.Pre-requisites- Google Cloud Platform Big Data & Machine Learning Fundamentals (or equivalent experience)- Some knowledge of PythonCOMPLETION CHALLENGEComplete any GCP specialization from November 5 - November 30, 2019 for an opportunity to receive a GCP t-shirt (while supplies last). While some of the labs were a bit frustrating with the grader, and my company's firewall rules prevent their completion (I have to work around by viewing cluster external IPs on my phone), I learned quite a bit in this course. The hands-on are excellent.

Very well outlined course. Although for the beginning data engineer the spark and hadoop parts can be confusing.

Got a good feel of DataProc and its use in overall GCP eco system. The lab's are the best part of the course.

Fast paced course and saved the best for last. I wish there as more try out exercies

I enjoyed the repetitive nature give the mechanics for cluster setup and the sequential add on of information. I also like the fact that we are shown how to set things up by clicking around of the GUI and the corresponding cloud shell commands.

Gives good basic understanding

The labs are extremely well put together. A good pace for an overview.

Good course .Very interesting!!

This course was OK. The quiz questions were laughably easy and not nearly as useful to represent my learned skills as other Coursera courses.

By Roy J on 3-Aug-17

lot of redundant material. For example there are videos which are longer and then shorter videos cover the same material

By Mitch S on 8-Jan-18

I think the quizzes should be more challenging. I'm using this course to prepare for the Date Engineering exam, and while the material is very interesting, I don't think we're really putting what we learned to the test (most quizzes only have one question, and it's usually very easy).

By Arnaud C on 27-Jul-17

The labs are cool enough but most of the things have already been demonstrated in lesson one in a more concise way.In my opinion, the lesson should be optional.
