In my young age, I was lucky to be selected from 500 people and being able to join and work at Carpenter, the studio established by Toei Animation, which made my very first step as an animator. I began my teaching career at a professional school at my 30-year-old and keep training talents for the industry. I am so proud to be the teacher of the students who now became directors, chief directors or character design professionals in the industry.
In addition, I am still active involving in various seminars and lectures as well as many work pieces in magazines and books, and has also worked as a lecturer for animator lectures on BS TV Station and an animation award judge for the International Animation Exhibition for 8 consecutive years. I am so blessed to be able to involve in the production of many animations such as "Sailor Moon", "One Piece", "Detective Conan", "Doraemon", "Naruto", etc. as Key-Animator and/ or Chief Director. The first animation I involved in the production was "The Galaxy Express 999", a very well-known anime in Japan, which is still one of my favourite.

This is a truly wonderful course. I always struggled with drawing the human figure when illustrating, so this course was incredibly helpful. Obata-sensei’s lectures are very thorough and easy to understand. The course has an atmosphere that makes you want to watch the videos over and over again to study drawing.

Obata-sensei is an amazing lecturer. I came into this course being someone who actually despised drawing (as a result from poor teaching in traditional art classes in school). I discovered that the reason was because I was never actually taught how to draw, and how fun the process is. I've lived most of my live believing I genuinely hated drawing, but taking this course showed me that it's not "guessing". Obata-sensei's approach is to teach you exactly how a professional animator draws. You learn models, perspective, composition, and the entire "skeleton" behind the high-end, beautiful scenes that we love to see in anime. You do not need prior experience, and he wastes no time, you'll learn what you need without any of the "fluff" added by traditional art courses in school. If you practice and study his teachings, you'll start developing your artistic skills very rapidly and having a lot of fun with the process, seeing tangible results as you complete the course. To Obata-sensei, I'm very happy to have had you as my first real "art-sensei", thank you so much for teaching me this world-class knowledge. I will continue to apply it as I continue my training to improve myself as an artist!

recomendado, me gusta este curso, es sencillo de entender solo queda practicar. recomendado si no sabes nada como yo no sabia nada antes de este curso, solo unas nociones sobre formas y gracias a este curso ya me queda más claro como usar esas formas.

idk first time drawing, so i find myself wanting more detail sometimes. especially with this hand lesson. Like where do i even start... just a flat open hand right? but where do i go from there and how? Ive had to look up youtube videos to compliment it.

I really love this class and content it really helps me a lot like for example its kind of refreshing to draw on paper again like going back to the old roots as well since ,you need to well always go back from what you learn and do it over again and then you might see it for your self of how much you have improve and I recommend for someone if they are an 2d artist they should well start with this course since its pretty helpful and trust me I know it is and also thank you sensei for teaching me how to become an animator and a better artist.

Cours indispensable ! Certainement le cours de dessin pour animation le plus professionnel que l'on puisse trouver. Merci Mr Obata ! Vous serait il possible de faire un cours de storyboard pour udemy ?

I am not a native Japanese speaker and I find it difficult to read the closed captions while I am working through his demonstration(s); however his method so far, is really easy to follow along with, I was surprised with my progress after the first lesson. I would highly recommend

I really enjoyed this course and really made a lot of progress thanks to Mr. Obata. The first part of the course presents a simple technique to draw average men and women from side/front/back. This first part should be learned by heart. Then the next sections reuse this first principles and put them more in action, to draw simple or complex postures. A large part of the course also takes in consideration how to think the drawing as if taken by a camera. A last part of the course talks about particular cases. In that course, I really missed a lesson on how to go from the very structured sketch of Mr. Obata to the final rendering of a clean picture (which he seems to excel at). Also, how to go from the average men and women to more specific bodies: fat, tall, old, children, etc… I think those should have come far before the camera part of the class.

Sensei explained very well and easy to understand. There's English subtitle too. But the resourses file is still in Japanese so we can't understand it even there are pictures on it. Also, the problem with non-English video is, once the subtitle goes wrong, the whole video is confusing. Yes, the subtitle on course 16 is not correct. Please fix it. Thank you.

I can shortly say...Even a professional artist, animator can learn something. It's very easy to understand by looking how he does even the language is difficult to understand. If you want to learn how to draw.. highly recommend this course. I'm very satisfied. Thank you sensei.
