Course Description

Almost all other courses focus on knowledge. In this course, we focus on gaining real skills.

Overall:

  • The course covers a good subset of algorthmic topics

  • Learn the inner details of the algorithms and their time & memory complexity analysis

  • Learn how to code line-by-line

  • Source code and Slides and provided for all content

  • An extensive amount of practice to master the taught algorithms (where most other content fails!)

Content of this part

  • Online Judges and How to use

  • Recursion: Basics Review

  • Complexity Analysis (Part 1)

  • Sorting: Insertion, Selection and Count

  • Binary Search: Basic and generalised forms

  • Graph Representation

  • Graph DFS

  • Graph BFS

  • Graph Topological Order

  • Extensive practice on these subjects

Philosophy of the course 2 parts:

  • The first part focus on topics that are more common in interviews

  • The first part focus on topics that require less proving skills. This allow you to sharpen problem-solving skills more first

  • In the next part we proceed toward other important topics in the Algorithms field.

Teaching Style:

  • Instead of long theory then coding style, we follow a unique style

  • I parallelize the concepts with the codes as much as possible

  • Go Concrete as possible

  • Use Clear Simple Visualization

  • Engagement

By the end of the journey

  • Solid understanding of Algorithms topics in C++

  • Mastering different skills

    • Analytical and Problem-Solving skills

    • Clean coding for algorithms

  • With the administered problem-solving skills

    • You can start competitive programming smoothly

    • A strong step toward interviews preparation

Prerequisites

  • Programming Skills:

    • Strong Programming skills

      • Solving a lot of basic problem-solving problems on fundamentals

    • Good understanding for basic recursion (E.g. Fibonacci)

    • STL, especially Vectors, map/set, unordered map/set

  • Highly Preferred:

    • Do programming projects

    • Finish a descent data structure course (extensive data structure practice)

Don't miss such a unique learning experience!

The most critical difference between our courses and others is ... going beyond knowledge: With us, you get really skilled. The extensive amount of quizzes, practices, homework, and [real] projects ranging from easy to hard will reshape your skills.

I have been teaching, training, and coaching for many students in Computer science and competitive programming.

I had been competing in ICPC programming competitions 2005-2011 (ranked 3rd/2nd/2nd in regional ACMC ICPC and World Finalist in 2011). After that, I played roles such as contestant, coach, problem setter, judge, and chief judge.

In addition, I have a mix of experience in Software Engineering, AI/Computer Vision Research, and Algorithms Design. I am a Ph.D. holder from  Simon Fraser University in Canada.

This course is a masterpiece for anyone serious about mastering algorithms. Dr. Mostafa has a unique way of breaking down complex concepts into simple, logical steps. The problem-solving approach is top-notch and highly relevant for both academic studies and coding interviews. Highly recommended for every computer science student!

Mostafa Saad’s algorithms course is excellent! It not only helped me understand algorithms better but also changed the way I think about problem-solving. His clear explanations and structured approach made tough topics simple and practical. I truly appreciate this course and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their skills.

This is an incredibly helpful and simple explanation of algorithms and data structures! The concepts are broken down in a way that's easy to understand, even for someone who's new to the topic. The examples are clear, concise, and really help to solidify the information. I highly recommend this resource to anyone looking to improve their understanding of these fundamental computer science concepts.

Super informative theory lectures and good problems for each topic and sub-topic. Also I loved the Dr. solutions. Good cover for some of the topics needed for interviews with some flavor of CP experience. Very excited to start DP and Advanced Graphs in Part 2!

Very extensive course on some of the most important algorithms. Lots of tasks to code for yourself, often from Leetcode. The structure is good, I feel like I've learned more in a few days than throughout a whole semester of classes. One caveat however: The instructor, although very knowledgeable, tends to have a few oversights here and there. You really need to be on your feet all the time, otherwise you might pick up something wrong. The presentation could be better, but is on par with how most people teach at university.

The most interesting thing I found in this course is the problem-solving part. You don't just get knowledge, you are practicing it and at the same time you are growing your problem-solving skill, which is a critical one. The content itself is a rich one and the way of explanation is amazing, too.

i watched the complexity, recursion and binary search sections and i could say that the quality of the explanation, visualization of every problem and variety of problem set solution makes this Algorithms course unique and makes me enjoy and seeking to finish this course to the end, another note that i liked the instructor caring about competitive programming people not only who are preparing for tech interviews overall the course is good.

Iam really enjoying the course and its style. the number of the homeworks is enough to put you on the track and gain the skill and it makes us think and practice. Also your way to think recursively is great. I will update the review once i finish the course, but till now, its great !

I write this at the halfway point, at around lecture 80. As with the 'Mastering Criticals Skills With C++17' and the 'Mastering Critical Skills with Data Structures' courses (which are prerequisites to this one), this course offers very challenging but engaging material. I've studied C++ (along with a little web design) on a part-time basis since September 2020, starting out with literally 'zero' knowledge of even basic terminology, and never having used an IDE before. After finding the most popular textbooks rather dense and unhelpful, I started Dr Ibrahim's courses around Christmas 2020. It's been a story of demonstrable and consistent improvement ever since. It's March 2022 at the time of writing this review, and I'm now able to tackle 'Medium' LeetCode problems with some success; especially with regard to finding more optimal solutions. 'Easy' LeetCode problems used to be tough for me to read; they are now almost impossible to fail! At the halfway point, and from this course alone: -Gain confidence and a total understanding of recursion; after some initial uncertainty -Learned how to explain and 3 common sorting algorithms (Insertion, Selection, Count). (I've read that demonstrating an understanding of 'sort' algorithms is a reasonably common question of candidates in interviews. This course gives me confidence in dealing with them!) -Learned how to solve a variety of problems using the 3 algorithms mentioned above (with 'Count Sort' being the most useful) -Learned how to recognise and utilise the 'sort()' function; and how it can help solve challenging LeetCode problems -Mastered the use of Binary Search, and learned how to recognise when to use it to help solve problems. -At the time of writing, learned how to model a 'graph' (whether weighted or unweighted, and whether directed or undirected) I'm confident that the remainder of the course will give me a strong foundation with how to solve problems using graphs, especially using 'BFS' and 'DFS'. My target is to start interviewing for jobs in the California area after the 2022 Qatar World Cup, and look forward to the day I can update my reviews on these with jobs offers and salaries offered. As it stands, I wholeheartedly recommend making these courses a central plank of your study plan - and hope to eventually offer a more credible review as someone who has entered the industry exclusively as a result of having mastered the critical skills promoted by Dr Ibrahim. Thanks again for the course!
