Course Description

Azure Functions is one of the quickest and easiest ways to get your code running in Azure while maintaining a cost-effective and serverless model.

In this course, Microsoft Azure Functions - Developing Serverless Solutions, you will learn how to create your own Azure Functions apps and visualize how full applications can be built using Azure Functions' powerful, yet simple model. We will explore the tools needed to support development, both locally and in the Azure Portal, and explore the different triggers, bindings and deployment models that are possible.

Along the way, you will learn how to:

  • Understand Azure Functions Hosting Plans

  • Explore C#, TypeScript and other language options for Azure Functions

  • Develop and test Azure Functions using Azure Portal editor.

  • Develop and test and deploy Azure Functions using Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code

  • Create and Manage Azure Functions

    • Using Azure Portal - Web Based

    • Using Azure Functions Core Tools (Cross Platform)

    • Using Visual Studio Code (Cross Platform)

    • Using Visual Studio (2019/2022)

  • Understand Azure Functions Bindings and Triggers

  • Use Azure CosmosDB with Azure Functions

  • Monitor Azure Functions for performance and potential errors using Application Insights

  • Deploy Azure Functions App

  • Build Client Application to interact with Azure Functions

  • Setup CORS Policies for Azure Function App

  • Explore Security with Azure AD for deployed Azure Function Apps

By the end of this course, you should have a fundamental understanding of what Microsoft Azure Functions are, how they can be used and how they can interact with other services. This course aligns with training required for the Exam AZ-204: Developing Solutions for Microsoft Azure examination, though it is not an official training guide.

It is perfect for you if you need to know enough about developing with Azure Functions to be functional in your workspace, without taking the exam.

I like the content si very usefull; I think that at input and output binding it could be nice to have more details. I don't like the phone vibration sound in the backgound

Good introduction into azure functions, obviously I have a way to go in learning these. Great instructor, I have added some other courses by Trevoir Williams to my cart.

nice explanation. When explain functionapp creation how much cost it will be that is better for new users

By Erich Stehr on 3/28/2024

I liked most of the course, but the two parts that marred it were that it's based on .NET6 in-process (expires in 2024/11) without saying so, and the final section on deployment was marred by being abandoned half-way through with a "That's another course."

By Tony Mbatia on 3/21/2024

A great resource for learning the fundamentals of Azure Functions. Great if one already has some experience developing apps with .NET. The instructor is knowledgable, moves at a good pace and is precise and to the point.

I think If the course focused more on the main concepts about Azure Functions, would have been much better (Blazor part wasn't that useful for someone who wants to practice Azure function). Also, it needs to be updated with Azure V4. Other than that, it's a great course to teach you Azure Functions.

The course was going fine till the first two sections, then I had a difficulty and issues in running the TypeScript function. I was expecting to learn the nitty-gritty of Bindings/Triggers instead of Blazor App and Cosmos DB.

Trevoir has a very clear and practical method to explaining the content. For me being a highly visual and practical learner his courses really set the bar for what I want in a course. I also feel there is a sincerity to Trevoir which gives me confidence he has his students’ best interests in mind and that he’ll continue to create and update content in a timely manner.

Good overview of Azure Functions. Would have liked a bit more detail about durable functions and durable entities, but this was a good starting point.

By Russell Derouin on 2/7/2022

I think Trevoir is very knowledgeable, but he did jump through section 6 very quickly. I needed to repair TypeScript errors in VSC which I haven't done before. Namely npm install commands and there were issues with local.settings.json config specifically UseDeveloopmentStorage. I had to set it to false to use Cosmos; otherwise, I'd get a runtime error of CosmosDB can't be found (Azure/Azure-Functions github issue 1797
