Another terrible QScutter class. I took two and wasn't going to take another but didn't realize I had already purchased this one so was hoping for something different. Dragging, dry lectures with bad sound quality (lots of echoing and some odd feedback here and there). For each of the mongo and the node sections, it took so long to get up and running with everything. For mongo it wasn't until Lecture 5 section 26 that there was any real hands-on. So many slides describing all of the commands. Why not do one at a time instead of the infodump? I could not finish this class and will be archiving it.

Basic contents are good. It is a good introduction for mongodb. 1. Quality of audio is not great. Background noise such as street sounds are annoying. 2. End of the lecture made me feel not completed. I was expecting a little better but simple web design using node and mongo db; e.g. simple user interface to add/update/delete data with mongodb. Even though it is not difficult to do it by myself. 3. version of express was out-of-date, and I had to find out a proper modification to make it work; e.g bodyParser.

i didn't like the flow of tutorial. the audio is low and they don't give much about downloading mongodb on mac.

I'm conflicted. Reading the syllabus, the course outline, I said to myself "this is the right material. I know something about MongoDB and Node - yeah!". Then I took the course. About the course outline. What I want as a dabbler in both Mongo and Node is a grounding. An understanding. Enough material to get me going. This outline is perfect. He, whoever he is, starts with "Why Mongo and other NoSQL databases", then installing it, then concepts then CRUD in the shell, some design, and then into Node. Why Node? He doesn't make the case and I won't either. Node has many uses and Mongo has drivers that operate it well. Mongo and Node are paired often in the real world. I am not going to make the case for it here, Mongo and Node work well together so... I think it's a good choice to explore with Mongo. I'll leave real argument for another time and place. And now for the course. A course should be audible, presented in a non-boring way, have time for hand's on experimentation and achieve what the outline sells you. The outline is why you buy the course. First, this course is bearly audible. Like others said, you have to turn your volume(s) up to high to hear him. This is poor course production and could have been corrected. Second, the guy essentially reads from the slide show. This has become presentation 101 now. You need slides with material information. These slide have that - good. BUT, reading from them and virtually not contributing anything more is - boring. No matter how good the slide material is, this course is for the most part boring. You can turn away from the course and listen to it. Third, there are no materials and there were places where materials could be provided to great effect. In half the lectures there were pictures with interesting information. Why can't I have the interesting information? Lecture 4, CAP correlation has a dynamite graphic of "pick two" theory and examples. Lecture 27 had the railroad diagrams of Javascript. And there are more examples. There's no materials to download the course at all. There's no summary or guide. This is an opportunity to wow us and he fails to do so. Fourth, and this is the troubling part of the course, it's out of date. The course guide says he'll evolve the course and he doesn't. Mongo is in major verision 3 and has been for some time but this course is geared to version 2. An example: Lecture 37 - Clearly old material and not applicable to ver 3. ensureIndex() no longer support a key concept, dropDups which drops duplicate documents. There's a different way to do this now and it's not covered in the course. He thought de-duplication logic was important, and I agree, but he shows the old, unsupported way now. There are other cases too. So a newbie tackling this course will be confused. Some like me who's dabbled will find it just ok and dissatisfied. This is why I gave it 1 star. Those that thought this a great course puzzle me and did not support their praise for the most part.

1. Volume too low.At full volume on a 2014 MBP, your narrators voice is barely audible. 2. The course is a power point presentation where humanoid with an Indian Malayali accent reads out the words. 3. I want a refund Udemy.

This is the first time I have ever asked for a refund on a course. Terrible, basic, confusing course. Lectures are mostly a minute or two long. The first 20 lectures could've been summed up in one or two videos. Not a very good course, sorry.
By Mohammed Naseer on 9/7/2015
Unlike many instructors on Udemy who have an accent but still speed through the course like a freight train making it impossible to understand, the instructor of this course very thoughtfully does not rush through the material being covered and what's more and I love him for this, he has scripted all his contents onto presentation slides thus you are not second guessing what he is saying. All in all a very structured and an extensive course which I would most certainly recommend.
By Sanjay Krishnankutty on 12/2/2014
This is an excellent starting point for Mongo beginners. I would have given 5 stars if the course included some real project examples while explaining the concepts
By Karan Checker on 6/17/2014
And also the presentation is lousy. Seems like a guy is narrating a script and doing a bad job at that too.
By Jaiyaramakrishnan Mahendran on 3/3/2014
i like the way the topics are presented in videos, it would be really nice if any ebook or reference material attached with the course.
