Course Description
MySQL is a general purpose relational database management system (RDBMS) used mainly to provide a back-end database for web applications. In this course, we'll introduce the concepts of relational database management systems in general, and how they relate to MySQL in particular.
Unlike traditional courses that concentrate mainly on theory, we'll take a practical “how-to” approach to working with data. Here's what yyou'll learn:
Creating databases and tables
Adding data to a table with INSERT
Reading a table with SELECT
How to use WHERE to filter data
Using ORDER BY to sort data
JOINs and how to use them to read from multiple tables
Changing data in a table with UPDATE
The DELETE query: removing one or more rows of data from a table
Using a text file to load a database schema
These topics and many more will be covered. The concentration in this course is on MySQL itself… not on how to use it to for any particular purpose. But this course makes a great introduction to our upcoming course about web databases using php and MySQL. So why wait… sign up today!

This is a great beginners course for learning the basics very basics of MyQSL, it's short and concrete. Rick seems to be a very seasoned programmer- instructor who knows about the subject. Thank you EDUmobile!

Very concise and basic, exactly what (as a MySQL beginner) I needed. Some parts I felt could use a little more explaining as far as examples, and "why"...but can't complain really. Hence my 4-star review. I would not hesitate to take a course by this author again.

I really enjoyed this course. The instructor explains everything clearly and the content is also useful. However, it's not that specific to MySQL, since most of the course covers concepts on SQL and databases theory in general.

This was is a great intro course, but xampp now comes with MariaDB and not mysql (although mariaDB is built on mysql and is very similar, so this does not affect the lessons from the course.)

The course is interesting and do cover a lot of basic aspect of dbms, not just related to MySQL. Having already a knowledge on SQL and other dbms, I expected a course more oriented on MySQL, and not on db and SQL in general, as some lessons are. But that is fine, I believe that people without a basic in dbms would learn a lot. I would rename the course: "SQL for beginners with MySQL database manager".

This course has helped reinforce the materials I am currently reading over. Will definitely recommend this course and Udemy to others! I am able to practice along side him with my virtual set up. Great course!

Great course -- very concise and pretty easy to follow. I specifically sought out a course that would be easy to complete in a short amount of time, and this had the perfect amount of content -- no filler or time-wasting lectures, just helpful basic explanations about getting started with MySQL.

Experienced instructor. Clear and concise examples. Surprisingly short (a good thing, doesn't waste time). Nice review for me but someone new to SQL could pick up all they need by pausing or reviewing videos. If you want to know syntax for getting things done, this is the course. If you want deep background of relational database management, probably should look elsewhere (database optimization is not covered to any significant degree -- no mention of Codd's rules for example). Tip: Watch upper right corner of video screen for occasional downloadable resources. Easy to miss.

This course was stellar, because all the lectures were condensed into 2-7 minute videos that showed you how to write MySQL by doing. I didn't realize creating a database was so easy! As a front-end developer and busy person, this course really gave me some great skills in a short amount of time, and I didn't need to know anything about MySQL or databases ahead of time. Great for beginners. The instructor was very direct and easy to listen to, he covered all the basics thoroughly, but in a concise way.

Everything was probably good but I had a hard time visualizing the relationships of the database just watching what was being typed. I would have liked to have seen more graphic displays of how each command linked back to the data. I can learn the commands but what I really need is the knowledge of how to design the relationships.
