This is the N5 video course from Attain Online Japanese Language School, cut from the curriculum of its live classes. The syllabus shows 15 lessons, 250 lectures, 166 quizzes and about 21 hours of video, with English subtitles on the narration. Despite the Beginner label, it expects students to read hiragana and katakana already, and the school points complete newcomers to its separate Beginner Course first. It suits people aiming at the N5 exam, or heading to Japan for study or work.

Reviewers like the clear explanations, the focus on listening and Ando-san's simple, creative way of teaching. One says they absorbed more than with Duolingo. The complaints cluster in a few places. One beginner found the sentence-first start confusing, and one reviewer says total newcomers will have a hard time. Quizzes don't show full translations, so people can get answers right from grammar alone without knowing the words. Caption settings baffle some learners, since there is no Japanese track. One reviewer says it doesn't cover all of N5.

It was difficult at the beginning of the lesson on why they started with this structure. i somewhat understand now. I'm a beginner and thought we would start hiragana and katana before seeing sentence structure in both enlgish and japanese.

I am gonna say this is not enough at all for JLPT N5. The exercises in this course aren't that much helpful even after the update. It doesn't cover all the topics of JLPT N5. What I want to say don't just lean on it and use books and solve past exams if possible, also make sure you know all the lessons of z\JLPT N5 cuz they are not covered all here.

This course is intense and knowledgeable when you want to really ingulf yourself into the Japanese language. I have learned so much from this course that I feel confident enough to take the N5 test. My reading and writing skills have grown so much from this course. I truly can't wait to continue my study.

In the quiz sections, I would have liked to see a full translation of the sentence and answer. There were several questions where I got it right by knowing the conjugation rules, but didn't remember the vocabulary.

I like the content of the course. However, I can't find how to set the closed caption to Japanese. The only options in the setting are Spanish and Indonesia. Is there a way to have the original Japanese transcript? I really want to follow what Ando-san is saying during the course. That helps me learn more Japanese. Please help if you can.

Great course! Love the information and all the provided materials. Wish it was more interactive with more scenes/videos/photos as Im a visual learning. Also not clear on how to supplement Kanji with the course and some of the quizzes your tested on what the kanji is. But overall I like the course. Very well done!!

This course is good for beginners who want to learn accurate Japanese and prepare for the JLPT. The macrons in the PDFs need to be corrected for better understanding. Overall, it is better and more resource-ful than any other language-learning app.
